James Alverson, Revolutionary War Soldier, enlisted in the regular service of the U. S. 3rd Virginia Continental Regiment on 4 September 1777 in Fairfax County Virginia, and served as a private in Captain Daniel Earl's and Val Payton's Companys, Col's William Heth's and Neville's Virginia regiments, was at the battle of Germantown and was taken prisoner for about seven months. He was in the battle of Monmouth and Stony Point, and was at the siege of Charleston, S.C., where he was taken prisoner and made his escape the following June after which he was discharged. James was allowed pension 20 Sept 1818. Pension # W-8326.
In 1820 he was living in Union district, S.C. and in 1821 he was living in Chester district, S.C. and stated he was 60 years old.

Elijah Alverson, being duly sworn on his oath saith that although he was young he remembers perfectly well the time when his brother James Alverson enlisted in the war of the Revolution who has applied to the War Dept. of the U.S. for a pension. That he enlisted in 1777 about two miles from Colechester town on the Occoquon River, Fairfax County Virginia.
