The son of William, Jr., a bookbinder from Northampton, MA, George Spencer Bliss was born December 22, 1839 and died June 16, 1863 of wounds suffered at the Battle of Port Hudson, LA. On 6/21/1861, he was mustered into "C" Co., MA 10th Infantry. He was promoted to Capt. on 11/25/1862 as of Co. "G" 52nd MA

The son of Erastus, a farmer of Milton and Georgia, Vermont, Homer E. Bliss was born October 17, 1840 and died August 7, 1863 of wounds suffered at Hagerstown, MD. He enlisted on 11/30/1861 and was mustered into "A" Co. of the VT 1st Cavalry on 12/19/1861. Homer was listed as a POW on 3/17/1861 and paroled on 3/18/1863.

The son of Julius, a shoemaker of Jericho, Vermont, Julius Bliss, Jr.  was born April 15, 1833 at Jericho, Vermont and died July 25, 1914 at Johnson, Vermont. He was mustered into "F" Co., VT 13th Infantry on 10/10/1862 and mustered out on 7/21/1863 at Brattleboro, VT. He was wounded in Pickett's Charge.  After the war, he  farmed in Morrisville, VT and fathered four children. The son of Jacob, a machinist of Carthage, New York, Orlando T. Bliss was born September 28, 1844 at Vernon, NY.  He was mustered into "H" Co., NY 2nd Heavy Artillery on 10/14/1861 and mustered out on 9/29/1865 in Washington, D.C.  He was listed as a POW on 8/27/1862 at the second Battle of Bull Run and later paroled. He transferred to "F" Co. in 1864 and was promoted to Capt. in  1865.

The son of George Bliss, a farmer of Northfield, Vermont, Sidney  was born October 17, 1842 at Granville, Vermont and died in 1934 at San Jose, California. He was mustered into "I" Co., VT 1st Heavy Artillery on 9/1/1862 and mustered out on 6/24/1865.  Wounded at Cedar Creek, VA, Sidney earned the ranks of Corporal, Sergeant, 2nd Lieutenant, and 1st Lieutenant.  After the war, he worked as an engineer for the Southern Pacific RR Co. and resided in California.  He later became a rancher and removed to the Santa Clara Valley.

The son of Zenas Bliss, a manufacturer of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, Zenas was born April 17, 1835 in Johnston, Rhode Island and died January 1, 1900 at Washington, D.C.  Zenas graduated from West Point in 1854 and received the Medal of Honor on December 30, 1898. Citation: This officer, to encourage his regimen; which had never before been in action, and which had been ordered to lie down to protect itself from the enemy's fire, arose to his feet, advanced in front of the line, and himself fired several shots at the enemy at short range, being fully exposed to their fire at the time."
