[86] I never knew of or about him until a letter from Lucile. She says,"Allan, my brother was named, ALLAN FRANK, after my father'sbatchelor brother who didn't marry until about 1917 to KatherineHIckox of Springfield. They had a daughter named Virginia. Both myfather and Frank were college graduates, (and both alcoholics).

Frank was on a ship on the way to South American when the Boar Warbroke out in Africa. The English commandeered the ship so he enlistedin the British army. For his service he was awarded the VictoriaCross and a tract of land in Canada which he did nothing about.Besides losing the Victoria Cross, and my grandmother got it backonce, he eventually lost it again." She went on to say she thinks hepawned it to buy booze. Frank showed up once when Allan was living inBrookfield, looking for a loan, but Allan could not afford it. Sothat was the last that anyone every saw him. His wife had dumped himlong before. "Both Frank and my father (John) were super salesmen butthey couldn't keep away from the booze and hold good jobs."
