[581] William Champlin, son of Michael Champlin and Rebecca Oatley, was bornc1746 at Charlestown, Rhode Island and perished at Valley Forge,Pennsylvania in the winter of 1778, as did so many other ofWashington's soldiers.

William married on December 19, 1765. It is thought that the name ofhis wife was Mary Gardiner of South Kingston, Rhode Island, but thisis not a certainty. He had at least one child from this union:.Michael. William was enrolled in 1777 at Charlestown as being ofmilitary age.
