[1138] Multi-millionaire banker, merchant and oil man. H.H. possessed thepenetrating black eyes which all the sons inherited from their mother.They denoted great acumen, shrewdness and perspicacity . He made "therun" into the cherokee strip of Oklahoma Indian Territory in 1893 atthe age of 24. He founded a Bank, a number of lumber yards andhardware stores which prospered. He entered the oil business by thepurchase of a 160 acre lease, on Aug. 30, 1916, in what became the"Garber Field". He drilled extensively, constructed pipe lines, andstarted refinery operations in July 1917. This was followed byextensive retail marketing operations in some 20 states. at the timeof the company's sale and conversion to a publicly owned corporationin 1953 it's assets exceeded fifty million dollars. In 1970's itbecame a division of the Union Pacific Corp. with assets somewherebetween 1/4 and 1/2 Billion dollars.
