INDEX

[193] David C. (Comfort) was the first born child and was given the name ofhis Grandfather. Of the first three children, they were all born inSherburne.

Because he was the first born of 11 children and Comfort moved atleast 5 times by actual count according to the Census figures it wasdifficult to keep track of them and Comfort.

David C. was born in Smyrna and lived there all of his life as best wecan tell. He was also a friend of Ben Card's and apparently theylived near each other. We know he is a real person because he wasreferred to in a letter written by his brother Uriah, to Ben's family. It was written by an old fashioned nib type pen but it was translatedby Cyndy Coy in 1976.

In 1855 the Umadilla Census had him there as a Boarder with ClarkHough and Harriet. It was noted that David was a Joiner, a native andalso owned land.

The Benjamin Card received a letter from Uriah his younger brother whowas living at the time in in Wisconsin on his way to Kansas. It wasabout the untimely death of David.

Dated November 6th 59 (1859)

Wisconsin.

The letter is significant for a number of reasons. It shows the closerelationship between Benjamin Card as well. David was probably morelike a father to Uriah than David was as there was a 23 yeardifference in their ages.
