[595] Uriah Ansmore Champlin, son of Michael Champlin and Mary Enos, wasborn on April 27, 1802 and died at Earlville (Madison County) New Yorkon March 24, 1843. Uriah and his wife were buried together in theEarlville Cemetery where I located their gravestones on October 15,1997. Beside them are the graves of Uriah's parents Michael Champlin("died Feb 3, 1836 - 69 yr") and Mary, "His Wife - died Jan 4, 1840 -72 yr".

He married Mary (Polly) Card on October 10, 1822. Mary was born onMarch 28, 1791 and died on February 8, 1864 at Earlville, New York. Uriah and Mary had 7 children:

In 1826 it is recorded that Uriah was jailed for non-payment of debtsunder the following law:

" In the early 1800's cash money was hard to come by and there weretimes when trading goods and manual labor were not acceptable. Insuch cases a man would borrow the money. He would then go to thenearest Public Official and place himself on Jail Limits, ie: the manwould agree not to go beyond certain limits, stated in miles (usuallyten), in any direction from his home. When the debt was paid, heprovided proof to the public official and his name was removed fromtheJail limits. Jail limits were quite often published in the localpress." In the 1830 Census, Uriah and Mary were enumerated at Sherburne, NewYork. The household consisted of 9 people described as follows:
