NOTES

When you read The Smoots of Maryland and Virginia, you will see that the author used words like “believed,” “assumed,” “highly possible,” and “sometimes thought,” when referring to un-proven connections. Unfortunately, people have published some of these un-proven connections as proven fact. While caution is urged when reading this book, even more caution should be observed when viewing the genealogy of others.

   Corrections Board.

Many items in the book do not cite original sources, so we will be attempting to identify them, and then linking them to the proper place in the text. Typographical errors as found will remain in the text, howver, if you find factual errors that you can document, you may post your information to our Corrections Board. Please, do not post your genealogical queries there. All other postings will be removed!

   Two abbreviations commonly used in the book:

q.v. = quod vide = Which see. A direction to the reader to look to another part of the book.

d.s.p. = decessit sine prole = Died without issue (no children).
