ALEXANDER "Alex" DANFORD was born in Barbour County in c 1839 to Thomas Jefferson Danford Sr. and Virginia Louisa Sloan who are found in Barbour County by 1823. Virginia Louisa Sloan is the daughter of John Sloan, Sr., b.1784, Ireland, and died in Barbour County in the mid 1850's.

The Commissioner of Pensions records show that Alex Danford, of Company A, 45th Alabama Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisted on March 10, 1862.
The records of prisoners of war show that Alex Danford, private , Company H, 1st Alabama Infantry, was paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina, May 1, 1865.

The records indicate that surrendered at Greensboro, N.C. with General Johnson in the Spring of 1865. Alex married Mary Miller on August 26, 1860 in Barbour County.

The "CARPET BAGGERS & SCALAWAGS" foreclosed on the families farms so we find both brothers, Alex and Thomas moving their families to Grimes Co., Texas by 1870.

THOMAS JEFFERSON DANFORD was born May 09, 1843 in Barbour County, the son of Thomas Jefferson Danford Sr. and Virginia Louisa Sloan who are found in Barbour
County by 1823. He enlisted with his brother Alex in Company A, 45th Alabama Infantry,
Confederate States Army, enlisted on March 10, 1862 in Barbour County.

Both men were surrendered and were paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina, May 1, 1865 and served
under General Johnson. Thomas married Sue McAlpine in Barbour County and the couple
moved to Grimes Co.,Texas with brother Alex and his family by 1870.

Note
The DANFORD Family can still be found living in
Barbour County, Alabama and Grimes Co., Texas today.
