Shorter Family Cemetery Submitted by Richard Price The Shorter Cemetery is the Family burial place for members and friends of the John Gill Shorter family. This cemetery is very well kept and is quite beautiful with the view of the lake, the Spanish moss hanging from the old oak trees, and the large monuments adorning several of the graves. Across from the family plot is the old slave cemetery. There are several unmarked graves scattered throughout this area. People have reported everything from experiencing an extreme sense of serenity to creepy, eerie feelings while visiting this cemetery. To access this cemetery, turn south off Barbour Street onto Riverside Dr. at the bluff. Follow Riverside Dr. until the pavement ends. Cross the cattle gap at the entrance to the estate and bear left through another entrance that leads to the cemetery. This survey was completed 22 April 2000, by Richard Price.
