If you have any information on this cemetary please let me know.

From the square in Clayton go down Eufaula Ave to where it dead-ends into Hwy 30. Turn left and go about 3 miles. Turn right on County road 67. This is Bud Gary Rd. Go about another 3 miles until you reach County Rd 22. Turn left here. After about 3 or 4 miles, this road will dead-end into a dirt road. The dirt road is named McSwain Creek Road. About 200 yards down this road there is a house with a gate on it's left. Pass through this gate and go down the dirt road through the field. When you reach another gate the cemetery will be on your left.

This is all of the head stones that are standing in the Scotch Cemetery. I have tried to list the information as I found it on the headstones.

There are many fieldstones in the middle of the cemetery; and, with the growth of weeds that has taken place over the last 30 years it is hard to accurately count the field stone graves. There is also a large uprooted tree that has been partly removed except for the roots and part of the trunk.

Some things that stand out are the dates listed for Daniel and Mary McGilvray. Daniel's headstone lists that he was born in A.D. 1792 and died in 1837. There are 45 years between 1792 and 1837 but his headstone lists that he died at the age of 67, a difference of 22 years. Mary McGilvray is listed as being born in A.D. 1781 and died in 1831. There are 50 years between the two dates but her headstone lists that she died at the age of 78 years; a difference of 28 years. The head stones are very readable so there is no mistake. The only thing that I can figure is that their birth dates listed are the dates that they were Baptized. One reason is because their birth years are listed as A.D. on their headstones.

James McGilvray on the 5th Row, his headstone is broken into about 3 pieces. So some parts are missing or hard to read.

Pet McGilvray is a nickname. His birth name was Malcolm J. McGilvray

This  is what I know of the family tree for the McGilvrays in the Scotch Cemetery. John McGilvray and Margaret were the parents of Hugh H. McGilvray. Hugh H. married Effa. He served in the Civil War. He enlisted twice. The first time he was discharged as a Corp. Then he enlisted again this time with the Alabama Sharp Shooters. By the time he was discharged again he had risen to the rank of Sgt. His children include Malcolm J. (Pet) McGilvray, and Hugh. Malcolm J. Mcgilvray married Lena Harris. Two daughters of Malcolm and Lena are buried in the graves beside Lena grave number 13 and 14. There names were Effie and Lella McGilvray. They died very young, about 3 years old. Hugh McGilvray, Malcolm's brother is buried in grave number 12 next to his nieces. This is what was told to me by my grandmother Dorothy Ann McGilvray Baker. She is the grand daughter of Malcolm J. McGilvray. Her father was William H. McGilvray. He is buried at Pleasant View Cemetery with his wife Ethel Agnes Land. -
