John was born in NC according to the 1860 census reports in Barbour County, Al. Ole John Glover, John P.'s father is found on the 1790 census report for Warren County, NC.. Warren County is on the Virginia state line so there is a possibility that the Glover family could have came to NC from Va.. The family from census reports lived in NC, Old Abbeville District, SC, then into Putnam County, Ga., where John P. married Drucilla Evans. Ole John and John P. with other allied families moved to Baldwin County, Ga. the part that would later become Putnam about 1810. All are found on a 1813 tax roll for Putnam County, the records also show him paying taxes on land in Jones County, Ga.. The family was successful in the land lottery and were on the move again about 1822. This time to Bibb/Crawford/Houston counties Ga. the reason I used all three counties is because the lines changed. As research continues I believe that they owned land in Putnam, Jones, Cherokee, Crawford, Bibb and Houston. Tax rolls show that John P. paid taxes on land in Putnam, Jones and Crawford. A deed from Ole John for land to build a church was at one time in Bibb County. Houston was split out to form some of the other counties. They may have never moved but the lines did. John was a man of money and means. All of his children were educated. His daughter Elizabeth Ann Glover married Zephaniah Fowler the grandson of the First Senator to Crawford County, Georgia. He was a man that other men followed this is shown by the movement of the family from Putnam County and then later on when he left Crawford County Georgia for Barbour County, Al. many of the families picked up and moved with him.

After the death of his mother Sarah Paschal Glover in 1839 the family became involved in a big battle over the estate. The sons-in-laws of Ole John and 2 of his sons felt that property that had been given to John by his father before his death as part of his inheritance should be returned to the estate. There were several children that received $150.00 in the will due to the fact that Ole John had already gave them their inheritance. Since John was better off financially those protesting he became the target of every dirty tactic that could be used to force him to return the property to the estate for sale. He was jailed, statement of the judge to the sheriff "Why is this man in jail"? John was not the only one that was harassed. William P. Glover, John P. Glover, Jr. and many others, including Mary Glover spouse of Milton P. Glover. They used the court system and law enforcement to drum up every kind of a charge they could come up with. The end result was the someone murdered Milton P. Glover.

John was the "Man". A look at the census reports show he always had a house full of other family members children and was caring for them. Many of the children had lost both of their parents. Drucilla's sister had died and the Vining children lived with them. Samuel Vining moved along with John P. and Drucilla from Putnam to Crawford and then to Barbour County. Drucilla died in 1859and John P. died July 9, 1862. I do not know where he or Drucilla are buried and I am still hoping to someday find their graves that I believe to be in Barbour County, Al. John's will may be seen here
