BATES, Mrs. Sarah

Atlanta Constitution, The , 30 August 1895

Eufaula, Ala. August 29 (Special) Mrs. Sarah Bates, for fifty-eight years a resident of this city and one of its purest and best women, died at her home here at 5:30 o'clock this morning after a long and painful illness. Mrs.
Bates was 75 years old and was a sister of Govenor John Gill Shorter and Hon. Ellis Shorter, deceased, and Colonel Henry R. Shorter of this city.
She was a mother-in-law of Hon. John D. Roquemare (?) of Montgomery, and was a lady known and loved all over the state. Her remains will be laid to rest in the old family buril ground in the suburbs tomorrow morning at 9:30 o'clock. Rev. W. N. Reeves and Dr. M. S. Andrews, of this city, will conduct the funeral services.

Mrs. Winnie M. Barefield, aged eighty, one of the oldest residents of the city died at her home yesterday and was buried in Fair View cemetery here this morning.

Susan Eufaula, wife of Edwin J. Burch, and eldest daughter of Rev. W. D. Bussey, died at the residence of Dr. Wm. Burch, Telfair co., Ga., Nov. 18, 1867, aged 22 years and 23 days.... E. J. B.

Young Man Dies of Fever

Conrad(?) Bush of Clayton died in Dothan yesterday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock after a spell of fever lasting three weeks. He was at the home of J. A.
Daughtry on Washington Street at the time of his death.

Mr. Bush had been in Dothan several weeks and had been connected with the Poplar Head Pressing (?) Club until the time he was taken sick.

He was about 22 years old and was single.

The body was shipped to his old house in Clayton this morning and will buried there today.

A. B. Bush, of Cotton Hill, Barbour county, is in Dothan today, and told of the death of his cousin, Council Bush, which occurred yesterday from typhoid fever.
