J.M. Higginbotham was shot and killed at W.K. Hagood Mercantile Co., at
Bradford Saturday night about 9 o'clock. It seems that Higginbotham was
a customer in the Hagood store when a bandit walked in and lined Hagood
and his customers up against the wall. According to reports Higginbotham
was shot by the bandit when he attempted to wrest the gun from the
robber. After shooting Higginbotham the bandit marched the others over
the dead man's body and forced Hagood to give him the contents of the
safe which amounted to about $550.00 in checks and currency.
Mr. Higgingbotham had many friends in and near Oneonta. He resided
several years on the Mrs. Rachael Bynum farm.
He is survived by his wife and several children.
