Cox Family

My Cox Family is based on family legend, census reports, and marriage records, except for the last part on Charity and Minnie Cox.
William Cox was born around 1785 in South Carolina. He was living in Dale County in 1826.  He
lived in or near the junction of the east and west Choctawhatchee River. By 1850, he was living in Barbour County. His wife, Jane, was born around 1790 in South Carolina. In the 1850 Barbour County census these children were living in his household: William Cox  born 1828, Vicey Cox, born 1834, Matilda Cox born 1830, Curran Cox born 1835, Catherine Cox born 1835, John Cox born 1839, Sarah Campbell born 1824, and Alexander Campbell born 1848.
Notes;
[Joseph, Olvin, and Coon were named as William's sons, in a research papers in the Ozark Library "Early Settlers of Dale County and their sons"]
[A family member remembered that John Cox and Huey Cox were brothers. Their nicknames were Coon and Curran. She did not know which nickname belonged to which name. She also remembered that they had two sisters, called Big Sis and Little Sis. She did not know their names.]
In 1850, William Cox Jr was married but still living at home. His wife was Vicey born around 1834 in North Carolina. These children were living in his home in 1870 Jane Cox born 1853,
Margaret Cox born 1854, Wm James Cox born 1858, Mary Frances Cox born 1860, Sherman Cox born 1866.
Notes: [William Jr had moved his family back to Dale County by 1880. They were living in the Skipperville District.]
Sarah Cox Campbell, William's daughter,, was living in his home in 1850. She had married Alexander Campbell 18 November 1846. Their son Alexander was two years old in 1850. No record of what happened to Alexander Campbell between 1849 and 1850. Mrs Martha Campbell married William Hall 26 October 1853 at William Cox's. On 6 November 1859 Sarah Hall married N.B. Sutton. I believe that Sarah's other name was Martha. I do not know what happened to William Hall. But in 1860 Needham Sutton born [1821 Ga] and Sarah his wife were listed in the Barbour County census as husband and wife. There were three children by Needham's first marriage in the household Elizabeth Sutton born 1848, William Jr Sutton born 1849, Jacob Sutton born 1850, Alex Campbell born 1848. These facts seem to suggest that Sarah Cox, Martha Campbell, and Sarah Hall was the same person. It is believed that this family moved to Florida before 1870.
Matilda Cox born 1830 may have married Charles Winston in 1852.
Catherine "Cynthia Emaline" Cox born 1836 married James "Bill" William Poole.
John Cox married around 1856 to Charity Carpenter.  [John may have been a casualty of the Civil War.] Their children were Issac Cox born 17 November 1859 died 24 September 1944, William Cox born around 1858 died 1870. After John's death Charity married his brother Huey Cox on 20 September 1863. Huey was born 5 December 1837 died 1 February 1868. Charity was born 5 Dec 1837 in Anson Co NC died November 25, 1920. She is buried at Sykes Creek Cemetery. Huey and Charity were the parents of one daughter Lucrtia "Lou Creasy" Cox born 22 July 1866 died 18 July 1949. Lou Creasy Cox is buried at Sykes Creek Church Cemetery. Lou Creasy had one daughter Minnie Flora Cox who married Buck Evans.
Issac Cox was born November 17, 1859 and died September 24, 1944 married November 12, 1880 to Nancy Campbell was born February 15, 1862 and died October 16, 1920. They are buried at Sykes Creek Cemetery.
