Daniel McLeod Marshall
Daniel McLeod Marshall was born in Dooly County Georgia about 1835 to
Thomas Marshall and Celia Christmas. His marriage record found in the court house in Clayton, Alabama states: "Since issued to Daniel
Marshall about 20 years of age and E. T. Lott by certificate of the covenant of his father. Barbour County, Alabama November 30th 1855.
This is to certify that Daniel M. Marshall my son has my approbation
to marry and it is my will that license be granted to him in application. Thomas Marshall To Judge of Probate. The State of
Alabama Barbour County: To any Judge Minister or Justice lawfully qualified to solemnize marriage greetings - You are hereby authorized
to join together in the Holy State of Matrimony Daniel M. Marshall and Miss E. T. Lott which done you will make return thereof to my office
within thirty days. Given under my hand and Office this 1st day of December AD1855. W.R. Coriem?, Judge of Probate.
I hereby certify that the above named persons were duly married by me on the 4 day of December 1855 at the house of Hastings Garland in the
county of Barbour and State of Alabama B. D. Loveless O.D.M."
The son born to Daniel McLeod Marshall and Elizabeth Lott on 9 December 1856 was my grandfather William Sanders Marshall. I have no
record of Elizabeth but she must have died a few months after the birth, because Daniel McLeod Marshall applied for a license to marry
her sister, Lucy Adelaide Lott on 6 July 1857. The certificate on file at the Barbour County Court House states that they were "both
full age." They married on 12 July 1859. Elizabeth Lott's mother was Susan Olivia Garland born 15 June 1808 in Louisa County Virginia and
died 15 July, 1882 in Barbour County Alabama. She married William R. Lott in Georgia. I have have
locate Susan's grave at Mt Andrew and have found information on the Garland side but nothing on the Lott side.
I am submitting this with a full story to the Barbour County Heritage Book. I'd welcome information on any of these families. William
Sanders Marshall married Henrietta Louise Dixon and I can find no trace of her yet except she is buried in Brundidge. Al.
He was a Civil War Veteran but I have not found out anything yet except he settled in Lackland
Fla and applied for a pension there. He married three times and had 14 children! From his
obituary, he
was outstanding in his community.
