A sign of the Times
Many of the young Confederate women wore Secessionist Bows as a sign of support for the soldiers much like the Yellow Ribbons of the Vietnam area ...an interesting political (and more than political) statement....this was before "buttons," of course.

SALLY WRIGHT a cousin of my family who probably was living in Montgomery Alabama at the time when she had her picture taken. I am not sure which WRIGHT was her father, but she would have been a descendant of Colonel WILLIS ALSTON (1750-1819) and his wife ELIZABETH WRIGHT 1745-23 Mar 1823 of Chowan and Halifax County North Carolina. The WRIGHTS and this branch of the ALSTON family moved to Alabama in the early 1800's. My ggGrandfather, DR. SAMUEL EDWIN NORTON married JULIA JUSTINA ALSTON daughter of JAMES WRIGHT ALSTON who was a descendant of the same line. CarBurCo@aol.com
