Service Records, 1861-65
(M1000-1066). Compiled in the 1930s, this collection consists of a card for
each veteran. The data was taken from muster rolls, pension papers, and
miscellaneous papers. The original records cited on the cards are also
available.

Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Who Died in the North While Prisoners of
War. This is a computer-generated list compiled by Cecil Norman and
Floyd Weatherbee, Jr., using data from National Archives microfilm. It
provides the soldiers' name, rank, age, military unit, date of death,
location of grave, and place of death (either a prison camp or a Muster
Rolls and Rosters. These provide name, rank, age, and enlistment dates. The
name of the military unit must be specified.

Pension Commission: Census or Enumeration of Confederate Veterans, 1907.
Arranged by county, this census names Confederate soldiers, sailors, and
officers from all branches of the military who served in a unit from any
state but who resided in Alabama when the census was taken. The form used in
the census requested name; place of residence; date and place of birth;
place and date of enlistment; military unit; whether captured, discharged,
or paroled; and related information. See the "container listing"
for this collection for container numbers for each county. This enumeration
is also available in printed form (see Published Sources—Alabama) and is
available on microfilm M443 (four rolls).

Pension Commission: Census or Enumeration of Veterans or Widows on the
Pension Rolls in 1921. Arranged by military branch, this census excludes
deserters and pensioners who owned real or personal property valued at more
than $5,000 or whose income exceeded $1,200 per year. The information is
similar to that obtained for the 1907 census but includes data concerning
widows and children. See the "container listing" for this
collection for container numbers.

Eighty Years or Older in 1927. The information includes the widow's first
name; name of the veteran; and the widow's age, date of birth, and date of
marriage. All records of this census are in container SG4350. [p.199]
