Wesley Methodist Church Cemetery Geneva Co., AL Send your information on this cemetery and any of the families to Margie. Please note the following story about Wesley Methodist Cem. "During the Second Creek War the Alberson family were horribly slain by the
Indians in 1837 near the first site of Wesley Chapel, named for the founder
of Methodistism, located by the branch of the same name. Perhaps as a result of
a flood in the river another site was chosen about half a mile east and on
higher ground where the first cemetery was. Later on the third site was
selected across the road from the present building, south of the modern
cemetery. Here stood the famous church for many years until it was moved to
the north side of the road and finally the fifth site, and present one, was
chosen.
"This church is one of the very oldest in this section and it has a noted
cemetery where many pioneers lie."

**** The following information was sent about the listings of the cemetery. It is my policy not to change original records but to add the additional information. It is up to the individual researcher to determine which information is correct. Thanks, Margie Daniels
Dear Margie,
A few months ago I typed my deceased grandfather's name
into the Yahoo search engine and was elated to find the Wesley Chapel Cemetery
listing. I shared this with my mother who was four when her father and brother
drowned in Holmes Co., FL and she had a one year old sister, the two of them
being left alone with their mother, Eula Howell Radford, who remarried
Bristol Capps a few years later. Mother and I noticed that the date of her
father's, Charlie Sanford Radford, birth was incorrect in this listing as was
his date of death. We then noted, after receiving a copy of Bible Registry
from my grandmother's Bible that mother's brother who drowned at the same
time along with his father, William Neal Radford, was spelled William Neil
Radford. The dates should be correct on the tombstone, but they are as follows
from grandmother's Bible Registry.
Tombstone (internet)
Corrections
Double Stone:
Charlie Sanford Radford
February 16, 1867
Date of Birth should be 02/16/1887
October 28, 1927
Date of Death should be 10/28/22 He was 35 when he drowned.
William Neil Radford
Middle Name should be Neal
September 5, 1916
October 28, 1922
He was 6 when he drowned.
Gone but not forgotten
Husband and son of Eula M. Radford
My grandfather's mother was buried at the head of her
son and grandson and her name, etc. appeared as follows:
Elizabeth Duke Radford
March 31, 1850
March 18, 1927
Gone but not forgotten
As far as we know right now, this is correct.
In speaking with mother, Alma Radford Newton, tonight via
phone, she had spoken with Loette Capps Parrish who is the aunt of Jerry
Hicks, son of Alma & Luther Hicks. Mother understood that Jerry Hicks and
his wife own the property and live next to the cemetery and look after it.
Loette is to get in touch with her nephew and have him look on the actual
tombstones to verify what I'm sharing with you now. Please let me know if the
tombstones are, indeed, correct.
I have typed quite a bit through the years as medical
transcriptionist and legal secretary and realize typos can happen even
when we try our best to be watchful for them so thought perhaps that was what
happened. Please let me know if these corrections can be made via this e-mail
or do you need a copy of grandmother's Bible Registry. Thank you so much for
your help.
In Christ's Love,
Mrs. Faye (Newton) Holt
