Tina all the older people that lived in the Lester, Dixie and Shugtown all pernounced the community

As Luster but all the printed or written spelled it as Lester.  I was very familiar with it as it is the

Name of the township of all that area.  I was once elected Constable and served as constable

Of Lester township.  I have server of elections of Lester township.  A some what noted historian

Of Craighead county and Arkansas State Police, Hershel”Plug” Eaton called Burnt Hill his home

Community.  There was one store that set in the intersection of the ole Three notch road and the

Old north south road that continued south to the community of Bowman on highway 18.  This

Township was the western most boundary of the eastern district of Craighead county.  All the

Eastern district operated from the Lake City Court House as required by law.

I lived at Dixie and was appointed Deputy Sheriff by then Craighead County

Sheriff W.Y. Nash on August 22, 1952.  In 1953 the new elected sheriff Lonnie Cooper re-

Appointed me.  He wanted me to file for the Constable position too and I did and was elected.

I served until 8-1-1955 when I went to work for the Arkansas State Police.  The county did

Not have many deputies back then. Craighead had the Sheriff and one deputy in Jonesboro

And one in Lake City.  He was pretty old and did not get out much so The Sheriff appointed

Deputies in the different communities to take care of the needs.  Sheriff Cooper called me to

Jonesboro to help him when the Chief Deputy was off on sick leave.
