Tina all the older people that lived in the
Lester,
As Luster but all the printed or written
spelled it as Lester. I was very familiar with it as it is
the
Name of the township of all that area.
I was once elected Constable and served as constable
Of Lester township. I have server of
elections of Lester township. A some what noted historian
Of Craighead county and Arkansas State
Police, HershelPlug Eaton called Burnt Hill his home
Community. There was one store that
set in the intersection of the ole Three notch road and the
Old north south road that continued south
to the community of Bowman on highway 18. This
Township was the western most boundary of
the eastern district of Craighead county. All the
Eastern district operated from the Lake City Court House as required by law.
I lived at Dixie and was appointed Deputy
Sheriff by then
Sheriff W.Y. Nash on August 22, 1952.
In 1953 the new elected sheriff Lonnie Cooper re-
Appointed me. He wanted me to file
for the Constable position too and I did and was elected.
I served until 8-1-1955 when I went to work
for the Arkansas State Police. The county did
Not have many deputies back then. Craighead
had the Sheriff and one deputy in
And one in
Deputies in the different communities to
take care of the needs. Sheriff Cooper called me to

NEWS IN THIS MORNING IS SCARCE AT THIS WRITING.
WE HAVE BEEN HAVING SOME NICE WARM WEATHER FINE FOR GATHERING CROPS. SOME ARE NOT YET THROUGH PICKING COTTON.
OLD JACK FROST HAS TURNED HIS HAND TOWARD HELPING US BANISH THE MOSQUITOES AND CHILLS.
SIM SIMMONS AND WIFE OF LUSTER (LESTER) HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF LOSING THEIR BABY LAST WEEK. THE LITTLE ONE WAS SICK ONLY A FEW DAYS . THE REMAINS WERE BURIED IN COFFMAN CEMETERY. THE BEREAVED FATHER AND MOTHER HAVE OUR HEART FELT SYMPATHY.
CALLIE DUNCAN AND MRS. LORA HORNE OF NEAR LUSTER (LESTER) WERE MARRIED LAST SUNDAY , REV. HAMILTON OFFICIATING. WE WISH THEM A HAPPY MARRIED LIFE.
MRS. CLAY AND TWO DAUGHTERS AND SON MADE A VISIT TO THEIR DAUGHTER AND SISTER, MRS. WALTER SIMMONS LAST SUNDAY.
YOUR CORRESPONDENT , H.B. SIMMONS AND FAMILY RETURNED THURSDAY FROM AN EXTENDED VISIT TO RELATIVES AND FRIENDS IN AND NEAR PARAGOULD , HAVING GREATLY ENJOYED THE HOPITALITY OF OUR OLD GREENE COUNTY FRIENDS.
