FUGITIVE FROM OKLAHOMA HELD

ELBERT WILSON TAKEN IN BY OFFICERS CLARK AND LAWSON TEN MILES OUT OF PARAGOULD

FORMERLY FROM GREENE COUNTY

DEPUTY SHERIFF BOB CLARK AND CONSTABLE ED LAWSON TOOK IN A BAD MAN FROM OKLAHOMA YESTERDAY AND LANDED THEIR PRISONER IN THE GREENE COUNTY JAIL. THE PRISONER IS ELBERT WILSON , WANTED AT IDABEL , OKLAHOMA ON A CHARGE OF ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO KILL.

SHERIFF CAMP RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOM GRAHAM , SHERIFF OF THE OKLAHOMA COUNTY WHERE THE ALLEGED OFFENCE OCCURED ASKING HIM TO KEEP A LOOKOUT FOR WILSON , WHOM HE SAID WAS A REFUGEE IN THIS COUNTY. THE SHERIFF AND HIS DEPUTIES PUT ON FEELERS AND SOON FOUND THE REFUGEE IN THE BOTTOMS TEN MILES EAST OF TOWN.

DEPUTY CLARK AND THE CONSTABLE WENT OUT YESTERDAY MORNING TO THE PLACE WHERE WILSON WAS SAID TO BE IN HIDING AND FOUND THEIR MAN AT THE HOME OF HIS FATHER-N-LAW , JOE WATKINS . THE FAMILY WERE AT THE NOON MEAL WHEN THE OFFICERS CALLED FOR WILSON AND HE CAME OUT , NOT SUSPECTING THAT THE OFFICERS OF THE LAW WERE IN THE ACT OF NABBING HIM.

AS SOON AS HE APPEARED ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE THE OFFICERS TOLD HIM TO CONSIDER HIMSELF UNDER ARREST AND HE OFFERED NO RESISTANCE . HE STATED THAT IF HE WOULD OF KNOWN OF THEIR INTENTIONS HE WOULD HAVE STEPPED OVER INTO MISSOURI AND BEEN BEYOND THEIR REACH.

WILSON WAS BROUGHT TO TOWN AND LODGED IN JAIL AND THE OKLAHOMA SHERIFF WAS NOTIFIED BY WIRE THAT HIS PRISONER WAS IN CUSTODY AND TO COME AND GET HIM. THE OKLAHOMA SHERIFF IS EXPECTED AS SOON AS THE TRAIN WILL BRING HIM.

WILSON WAS A FORMER CITIZEN OF THIS COUNTY , HAVING BEEN RAISED HERE AND HIS IDENTITY AND WHEREABOUTS WERE EASILY ASCERTAINED BY THE OFFICERS . HE IS A YOUNG MAN ABOUT 24 YEARS OF AGE AND WENT TO OKLAHOMA SOME FOURTEEN MONTHS AGO.
