PARAGOULD HUNTERS KILL BIG WOLF AFTER CHASE LASTING TWO HOURS

---

EXCITING CLIMAX TO DRIVE IN CACHE BOTTOMS RESULTS IN BAGGING MONSTER THAT HAS DESTROYED SCORES OF PIGS RECENTLY.

---

J.M. LOWE , CHASHIER OF THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK , W.F. TRICE OF TRICE BROS. FURNITURE COMPANY , A.D. JACKSON , FORMER COUNTY JUDGE AND R.J. REINHARD , REPRESENTING THE ARMSTRONG FURNITURE COMPANY OF ST. LOUIS , REACHED PARAGOULD LATE YESTERDAY EVENING BEARING THE HEAD AND HIDE OF A MONSTER-SHE WOLF KILLED YESTERDAY MORNING IN CACHE BOTTOMS , ABOUT 22 MILES WEST OF HERE.

THE FINE PACK OF WOLF AND FOX HOUNDS BELONGING TO W.F. TRICE AND A.D. JACKSON JUMPED THE WOLF YESTERDAY MORNING ABOUT NINE 0'CLOCK AND FOR NEARLY TWO HOURS THE DOGS MADE THE BOTTOMS RING WITH THE SWETEST MUSIC A HUNTER EVER HEARD.

THEY CROWDED THE BIG WOLF SO CLOSE SHE COULD NOT CROSS THE CACHE RIVER AND GET AWAY FROM THEM. THREE TIMES THE DOGS CAUSED HER TO CHANGE HER COURSE AND CIRCLE BACK THROUGH THE STRIP OF LAND BETWEEN THE DRAINAGE DITCH ON THE EAST AND THE RIVER ON THE WEST.

THE HUNTERS WERE SO ENTRANCED WITH THE THRILLS OF THE CHASE THAT THEY WERE IN NO HURRY TO END THE EXCITEMENT , AND PERMITTED THE DOGS TO CROWD THE FRIGHTENED QUARRY UNTIL IT BECAME APPARENT THEY WOULD SOON OVERTAKE AND CATCH HER. THE LAST TIME THE WOLF CIRCLED SHE CAME WITHIN EASY RANGE OF ONE OF THE HUNTERS AND HE BROUGHT HER DOWN WITH A WELL PLACED SHOT.

THE DOGS EMITTING A CHORUS OF YELPS THAT WAS ALMOST DEAFENING , WERE WITHIN LESS THAN A HUNDRED YARDS OF THEIR PREY WHEN THE SHOT WAS FIRED. THE WOLD , A GREY TIMBER SPECIMEN , FOUR YEARS OLD, MEASURING FIVE FEET AND TEN INCHES FROM TIP TO TIP AND WEIGHING 83 POUNDS , WAS SKINNED AND LAST NIGHT THE HIDE WITH FULL HEAD ATTACHED WAS SENT TO A TAXIDERMIST IN ST. LOUIS TO BE MOUNTED.

THE HUNTERS SAY A PACK OF WOLVES HAS BEEN TERRORIZING THE FEW PEOPLE RESIDING IN THAT SECTION OF CACHE BOTTOMS.

DURING THE RECENT COLD WEATHER THEY KILLED PRACTICALLY ALLTHE PIGS ON THE RANGE AND HAD BEGUN TO CHASE AND KILL THE OLD HOGS AND THE CALVES. A FINE CALF ON HERBERT WOOD'S FARM WAS RECENTLY KILLED BY THE WOLVES. IT IS STATED THE FIRES IN THE LOWER BOTTOMS LAST FALL DROVE THE WOLVES INTO THE UPPER CACHE BOTTOMS AND THAT THE SEVERE WINTER HAS MADE THEM DESPERATE.

HUNTING PARTIES HAVE GONE INTO CACHE BOTTOMS SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE PAST YEARS AND KILLED WOLVES, BUT NO TROPHY OF THE CHASE HAS EVER BEEN AS LARGE AS THAT BROUGHT DOWN YESTERDAY.
