GREEN FORREST

THEY LIKE PIE PLANT PROFITS

FOLLOWING THE SUCCESS OF A NEARBY FARMER IN THE RAISING OF RHUBARB OR PIE PLANT FOR THE NORTHERN MARKET A BOOM WILL DEVELOP FOR NEXT SEASON IN THE INDUSTRY.

JAMES STANDLEE HAS JUST RECEIVED A CHECK FOR $50 FROM A JOPLIN COMMISION HOUSE FOR THREE BARRELS OF RHUBARB WHICH HE GREW BY WAY OF EXPERIMENT. HE SAID HE COULD HAVE RAISED TONS ALMOST AS EASILY AS POUNDS . THERE WILL BE A GREAT INCREASE IN THE RHUBARB ACREAGE AROUND HERE NEXT YEAR.

THE RHUBARB SOLD FOR 12 1/2 CENTS A POUND AND THERE IS SAID TO BE A BIG PROFIT IN IT WHEN IT SELLS AT ONLY 3 OR 4 CENTS A POUND . SEVERAL CAR LOADS OF IT CAN BE RAISED ON A QUARTER OF A ACRE . WITH PROPER CULTIVATION WHICH CONSISTS KEEPING IT COVERED WITH STRAW DURING THE WINTER.
