This is the Last Will and Testament of S.L. Joseph , one of the first great businessmen of Greene County , his will was published in the Daily Soliphone Newspaper . Mr. Joseph's estate was estimated too be worth at a value between $150,000 and $175, 000 . His will was attested by J.D. Block and H.W, Woosley and was executed on the first day of June , 1907. The will that was published in the paper and was read with great interest by his many friends and acquaintances of Greene , County .

KNOWN ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS , THAT I S.L. JOSEPH of Paragould , Greene County , Arkansas , being sound mind and body and desirous of disposing of my earthly affairs while my mind and body are sound , and realizing the cerainty of death and the uncertainty of life , do by those presents , make publish and declare this my last will and testament , hereby revoking any and all wills hereto fore at anytime made by me , and hereby declare this too be my last will and testament.

1st: I desire as soon after my death as is practicable , that all my just and honest debts of all nature and kind be paid in full by my executrix hereinafter named.

2nd : I will , devise and bequeth too my beloved sister , Emma Ullman , of Germany , $5,000 dollars too be paid as directed .

3rd: I will , devise and bequeth too my beloved sister , Jeanette Meyer , of Germany , $5,000 dollars too be paid as directed.

4th: Too my beloved sister , Mrs. Babetta Marx , I will, devise and bequeth $100 dollars too be paid as directed . The reason I give no more too my sister , Mrs. Marx is because she has no children and is financially in a condition to need no part of my estate.

5th: I will , devise and bequeth too my beloved niece , Selma Scharif , who has always resided with me , all the stock owned by me in the Hornersville Mer. Co. and the S.L. Joseph Store Co. of Hornersville , Missouri .

6th: I will , devise and bequeth too the Jewish Orphan's Home of Cleveland , Ohio , $250 dollars , too the Home of Infirm Israelites of St. Louis , Missouri $250 dollars , too the Mt. Sinai Cemetery , St. Louis , Missouri , $250 dollars , too the Methodist Episcopal Church , south of Paragould , Arkansas , $ 100 dollars , too the Missionary Baptist Church , of Paragould , Arkansas , $100 dollars , too the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Paragould , Arkansas , $ 100 dollars , too the Christian (or Campbellite ) church of Paragould , Arkansas , $100 dollars , too the Roman Catholic Church of Paragould , Arkansas , $100 dollars.

7th: All my other personal property of all nature and kind I will , devise and bequeth too my beloved wife : Setta Joseph and also give too my wife for and during her natural life all my real estate ; and at her death my real estate shall go and be divided amongest the following parties :

Too my sisters , Mrs. Emma Ullman an Mrs. Jeanette Meyer , one half jointly , or if they or either of them shall be dead , the part that would go too them or either of them shall go too their children : Selma Schariff onefourth , too the children of Joseph and Eds Wolf fifteen per cent of said real estate and the remaining ten per cent shall go too the children of Henry Coldman , a brother too my wife , Setta Joseph .

8th : As too all gifts and bequests made in paragraphs , two, three, four and six , I direct that my executrix here in after named , shall pay the gifts too the parties therein named whithin one year after my death , except , that as too the bequests too my sisters , Mrs. Emma Ullman and Jeanette Meyer , shall pay too them in four annual installments of $1250 dollars each, the first payment too be made not earlier than one year after my death.

9th : In the event of death of my sisters of either of them before my death , then I direct that the amounts given them shall be paid too their heirs of their body in soul parts , and should my niece die before my death , then her share shall go too her children .

 

This is my last will and testmant , executed 1st day of June , 1907 .
