BILL WOODS AND WALTER COLE WERE ARRESTED AT NOON TODAY AT JONESBORO AND FOUND IN THEIR POSESSION WERE THREE SUIT CASES CONTAINING $500 WORTH OF MEN'S CLOTHING THAT IS IDENTIFIED AS THAT TAKEN FROM THE S.L. JOSEPH MERCANTILE ON THE NIGHT OF APRIL 23, IT IS ALLEGED , TOGETHER WITH MERCHANDISE FROM THE MACK MERCANTILE COMPANY THE PREVIOUS WEEK , AND ITEMS TAKEN FROM THE BERTIG STORE NEARLY A YEAR AGO.

ARRESTS OF THE BOYS RESULTED FROM A MESSAGE RECEIVED SOON AFTER THE COTTON BELT PASSENGER WENT SOUTH THIS MORNING AND WAS SENT BY A DETECTIVE WHO SAW THE BOYS GET ON THE TRAIN AT BETHEL AND BECAME SUSPICIOUS OF THEIR ACTIONS. DEPUTY SHERIFF PETE LECORNU AND JOHN MCKENZIE WENT TO JONESBORO ON THE SOUTH BOUND MISSOURI PACIFIC PASSENGER AND MADE THE ARRESTS.

WOOD AND COLE WERE BROUGHT TO PARAGOULD EARLY THIS AFTERNOON AND PLACED IN JAIL , BUT STILL REFUSED TO TALK . COLE SENT FOR ATTORNEY M.P. HUDDLESTON WITH WHOM HE HELD CONSULTATION.

ONLY ABOUT ONE-THIRD OF THE MERCHANDISE STOLEN FROM THE LOCAL STORES WITHIN RECENT MONTHS WAS FOUND IN THEIR POSSESSION OF THE BOYS. SEVERAL PAIRS OF SHOES , SEVERAL DOZEN SILK SHIRTS AND A QUANITY OF TIES IN THE BAGS HAD "JOSEPH'S MERCANTILE " TAGS STILL ON THEM . ONE LEATHER SUIT CASE IDENTIFIED AS BELONGING TO MACK MERCANTILE CO.

BILL WOOD WAS RELEASED FROM JAIL LAST WEEK WHEN THE GRAND JURY FAILED TO BRING A INDICTMENT AGAINST HIM. EXCEPT ONE FOR GAMING , ALTHOUGH HE HAD BEEN ARRESTED CHARGED WITH STEALING A CAR FROM A MAN BY THE NAME OF THOMAS OF HOLLYWOOD .
