THE ABB AND HETTIE MAHAN ROGERS FAMILY LIVED AND WORKED IN GREENE COUNTY FOR SEVEN DECADES.

ABB ROGERS WAS BORN NOVEMBER 22, 1906 , IN PONTOTOC COUNTY , MISSISSIPPI . THEN MOVED TO ARKANSAS WHILE STILL A TEENAGER , LIVING HIS ENTIRE LIFE IN AND AROUND GREENE COUNTY , UNTIL HIS DEATH ON JULY 18 , 1967.

HETTIE ANN MAHAN ROGERS WAS BORN OCTOBER 13 , 1912 , IN LAWRENCE COUNTY AND WAS RAISED NEAR CACHE RIVER. HETTIE SPENT HER ENTIRE LIFE IN AND AROUND GREENE COUNTY . SHE DIED SEPTEMBER 13 , 1978.

THERE ARE FIVE CHILDREN IN THE ABB AND HETTIE ROGERS FAMILY AND ALL GREW UP IN GREENE COUNTY . THEY ARE : CARRELL ROGERS , BORN AUGUST 23 , 1937 . RANDELL ROGERS , BORN OCTOBER 3, 1941. GEORGIA LOU ROGERS COLE , BORN JULY 14 , 1943 . LAVERAL ROGERS BORN SEPTEMBER 9, 1946 , AND LARRY ROGERS BORN APRIL 5 , 1949 . ALL SIBLINGS STILL LIVE IN GREENE COUNTY EXCEPT RANDELL , WHO LIVES IN RANDOLPH COUNTY , NEAR IMBODEN , ARKANSAS.

ABB ROGERS FARMED FOR HIMSELF IN GREENE COUNTY USING HORSES AND HORSE DRAWN EQUIPMENT IN THE NINETEEN-FORTIES UNTIL HE WAS CALLED TO ACTIVE DUTY IN WORLD WAR II . HE SOLD ALL OF HIS FARMING EQUIPMENT , GETTING HIS PERSONAL BUSINESS IN ORDER TO GO TO WAR. THEN , THE WAR WAS OVER . HE DIDN'T HAVE TO GO, BUT NEVER RECOVERED FINANCIALLY OR HAD THE HEART TO FARM FOR HIMSELF AGAIN.

ABB DID FARM FOR OTHER AREA FARMERS BUT WASN'T MUCH OF A COTTON PICKER. HETTIE SAID THAT HE TRIED TO 'GIN IT IN THE FIELD ' . NOW , ON THE OTHER HAND , HETTIE WAS A 'COTTON PICKER ' . SHE COULD PICK TWO-HUNDRED PLUS POUNDS OF COTTON A DAY , WHILE DRAGGING A SLEEPING CHILD ON THE TOP OF HER PICK-SACK. SHE ALSO COULD COOK THOSE DELICIOUS HOME COOKED MEALS . SHE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A 'PATENT' ON HER HOME MADE SUGAR SYRUP. YUM YUM .

ABB AND HETTIE ROGERS ARE BOTH BURIED , AS THEY LIVED , SIDE BY SIDE , AT SHILOH CEMETERY , JUST WEST OF PARAGOULD.
