Newspaper Men Not To Be Barred From The Inquest Friday

Community Discusses Cause For Strife While Awaiting Verdict

HERRIN, ILL., April 15. - - (By the Associated Press) - - A jury of Williamson county citizens will sit tomorrow morning in inquiry over the fatal shooting Tuesday in front of a Herrin polling place, in which three Klansmen and three anti-Klansmen were killed.

The jury is empanelled and has visited the morgue, where lie the bodies of the dead. Newspapermen will not be barred from the inquest, State’s Attorney Boswell announced today.

After the coroner’s jury had viewed the bodies, those of the three anti-Klansmen were removed from the city to their homes and the corpses of the three Klansmen were taken to their kin’s residences here. The body of A.E. Treadway was sent to Paragould, Ark., that of Charles Briggs to Marion, Ill., and that of Noble Weaver to West Frankfort.

The funeral of Mack and Ben Sizemore, Klan victims, will be held Friday and that of Harland Ford will be arranged after relatives in other states are heard from.
