Alvin J. Speaks 1961

            Alvin J. Speaks was born July 12, 1918 in Paragould, Ark., the son of the late Alvin and Alleen Speaks. He moved to Riverside with his parents in 1942. Mr. Speaks had been employed for three years at Leonard’s Super Market in Benton Harbor. He married Janet Sowka in Colona on Oct 18, 1959.

            Besides his wife, he is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Jerry (Winnie) Moore and Mrs. Billy  (Bertha) Martin of Riverside, Mrs. James ( Willine) Bassett of Flint, and Mrs. Paul (Virginia) Holcomb of Paragould, Ark.; five brothers Albert, of Riverside, Floyd of Cardwell, Mo., Willard of Flint and Lewis and Henry of Paragould, Ark.

            Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Benton Harbor Tabernacle. The Rev. M.C. Mulvaney will officiate. Burial will be in one family plot, Colona Cemetery.
