FROM THE WEEKLY SOLIPHONE

MAY 28, 1902

_____________

COL. C.W. PHILIPS , AN OLD TIME PRINTER , EDITOR AND NEWSPAPER MAN , WHO HAS BEEN WITH THE SOLIPHONE THE PAST MONTH , LEFT ON THE COTTON BELT LAST NIGHT FOR POINTS IN SOUTH ARKANSAS . THE HEAVY EDITORIALS ON NATIONAL , INTERNATIONAL AND SOCIAL TOPICS APPEARING IN THE SOLIPHONE THE PAST MONTH HAVE BEEN THE PRODUCT OF THE COLONEL'S BRAIN AND HAVE ATTRACTED SOME ATTENTION. THE COLONEL IS AN OLD CONFEDERATE SOLDIER AND CARRIES THE SCARS OF BATTLE. HE DELIGHTS IN BEING CALLED A REBEL AND WHEN HE WRITES ON WAR ISSUES IS VITRIOLIC , AS SOME OF HIS EDITORIALS IN THE SOLIPHONE HAVE SHOWN.

HE IS A GENIAL SPIRIT AND WE TRUST THAT SOME NEWSPAPER MAN IN NEED OF A PRINTER-EDITOR WILL GIVE HIM A PERMANENT PLACE.

UNDER PROPER PRESSURE THE COLONEL CAN EDIT A STRONG PAPER, PREACH A GOOD SERMON OR MAKE A SPICY POLITICAL SPEECH AS WELL AT TURN OUT NEAT WORK IN THE MECHANICAL DEPARTMENT OF A PRINT-SHOP.
