STRANGE EXCAVATION

CITIZENS OF FINCH NEIGHBORHOOD DON'T UNDERSTAND IT.

JOHN PILLOWS OF POLAND TOWNSHIP IS AMONG THE NUMEROUS VISTORS TO TOWN TODAY AND RELATED

TO A SOLIPHONE REPORTER A CIRCUMSTANCE THAT HAS CAUSED CONSIDERABLE SPECULATION IN HIS NEIGHBORHOOD .

THE OLD HOME PLACE OF HIS FATHER , CLEBURNE PILLOWS , WAS THE SCENE OF

THE STRANGE INCIDENT . SINCE THE FIRST OF JANUARY NO ONE HAS LIVED ON

THE PLACE. THE DISCOVERY WAS MADE RECENTLY

THAT SOME ONE HAD EXCAVATED SOMETHING THAT WAS BURRIED ON THE

PLACE NEAR THE BARN. THE GROUND WHERE THE

EXCAVATION WAS MADE RESEMBLED A NEW GRAVE AND AN

INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT A VESSEL ABOUT

THE SIZE OF A TEN GALLON POT HAD BEEN DUG UP.

THE EARTH AROUND THE PLACE WHERE THE POT WAS CONCEALED SHOWED

THAT SOME KIND OF VESSEL HAD BEEN HID AWAY FOR

YEARS AT A DEPTH OF ABOUT FIVE FEET UNDER THE GROUND .

A STAKE HAD BEEN SET INDICATING WHERE THE TREASURE WAS BURRIED.

THERE IS MUCH SPECULATION IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD CONCERNING THE STRANGE EXCAVATION , SOME BEING

OF THE OPINIEN THAT IT WAS AN OLD INDIAN TREASURE THAT HAD BEEN CONCEALED FOR

MANY YEARS , OR IT MAY HAVE BEEN TREASURES THAT WERE BURRIED THERE DURING THE WAR ,

BUT WHATSOEVER IT WAS , THE OPINION IS PRETTY GENERAL THAT SOMETHING OF VALUE WAS UNEARTHED AND

SPIRITED AWAY.
