PARAGOULD ATTORNEY SAYS EFFORTS WILL IMMEDIATELY BE MADE TO FAMILIARIZE HUNTERS WITH PROVISIONS OF THE LAW

LITTLE ROCK , MARCH 25 - THE FIRST MEETING OF THE ARKANSAS GAME AND FISH COMMISSION WAS HELD IN THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE YESTERDAY AFTER NOON . D.G. BEAUCHAMP OF PARAGOULD WAS ELECTED CHAIRMAN , AND LEE MILES OF LITTLE ROCK TEMPORARY SECRETARY WITHOUT COMPENSATION.

THE OTHER MEMBERS PRESENT WERE C.C. CALVERT OF FORT SMITH AND GEORGE WEBBER OF TEXARKANA . THE ONLY ABSENT MEMBER , WAS DR. HORATIO WELLS OF MONTISELLO. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF APPLICANTS FOR THE POSITION OF SECRETARY , BUT THE SELECTION WILL NOT BE MADE UNTIL A LATER DATE.

AT THE PRESENT TIME , THE CHIEF MISSION OF THE COMMISSION IS TO ADVISE THE PUBLIC OF THE PROVISIONS OF THE LAW ABOUT WHICH THERE APPEARS TO BE A GREAT DEAL OF MISUNDERSTANDING. TO MEET THIS CONDITION , SENATOR FUTRELL , AUTHOR OF THE BILL , IS PREPARING A DIGEST OF ALL THE GAME LAWS OF THE STATE FOR GENERAL DISTRIBUTION. WARDENS ARE TO BE APPOINTED WHO WILL BE SENT OUT TO NOTIFY ALL PERSONS TO STOP SEINING FISH FROM MARCH 1 TO JUNE 15. DURING THAT TIME IT IS UNLAWFUL TO CATCH FISH WITH NETS , TRAPS OR OTHER DEVICE OTHER THAN HOOK AND LINE , FOR MARKET OR ANY OTHER PURPOSE.

PERSONS DESIRING LICENSE UNDER THE LAW ARE REQUESTED TO SEND THE FEE TO THE STATE TREASURER, WHO WILL RETURN A DUPLICATE RECEIPT. ONE SHALL BE MAILED TO THE STATE AUDITOR AND THE OTHER ACCOMPANIED BY AN APPLICATION FOR THE LICENSE , SHALL BE MAILED TO THE SECRETARY OF THE COMMISSION ON A BLANK TO BE FURNISHED BY HIM.

THE SOURCES OF LICENSE REVENUE ARE AS FOLLOWS :

TAX FOR FLY FISHERMEN - $ 1.00

TAX ON DOGS USED IN HUNTING QUAIL - $1.00

TAX FOR HUNTING DEER - $1.00

FOR TRAPPING FUR-BEARING ANIMALS WITH MORE THAN TEN TRAPS - $10.00

FOR MARKET FISHING - $25.00

TWENTY APPLICANTS HAVE FORWARD THEIR FEES TO THE STATE TREASURER , BUT NO LICENSES HAVE BEEN ISSUED YET.

HERSCHEL NEELY OF RECTOR , AND MED DONALDSON OF BIG ISLAND , WERE IN THE CITY LAST NIGHT AND LEFT ON THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN LAST NIGHT FOR LITTLE ROCK ON BUSINESS. IT IS UNDERSTOOD MESSRS. NEELY AND DONALDSON WILL BE APPOINTED TWO OF THE GAME WARDENS OF THE STATE.
