ONE OF THE MOST CONSPICUOUS CHARACTERS WHO PASSED A PORTION OF HIS LIFE IN THE TOWN WAS DR. W.T. WITHERINGTON , WHO CAME HERE FROM TENNESSEE IN 1884 OR 85 AND DIED ABOUT FIFTEEN YEARS LATER.

HE WAS FRESH FROM A MEDICAL COLLEGE , WAS SUAVE IN MANNER , SYMPATHETIC IN THE TREATMENT OF HIS PATIENTS AND SOON ESTABLISHED A REPUTATION AS THE FOREMOST PHYSICIAN OF THE CITY AT THAT TIME. HIS CAREER WAS METEORIC AND HE MADE MONEY FAST BUT NEVER PRESSED A PROFESSIONAL BILL AGAINST A POOR PERSON.

HIS DEATH WAS UNIVERSALLY LAMENTED. THE RESIDENCE PROPERTY AT THE CORNER OF COURT SQUARE , OCCUPIED BY E.B. PERKINS AND FAMILY WAS HIS HOME AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH AND IS STILL A PART OF HIS ESTATE . HIS WIFE , WHO RESIDES IN MEMPHIS , IS A NEICE OF MRS. W.N. STANCILL.

DR. WITHERINGTON WAS A PARTNER WITH DR. F.M. SCOTT WHEN DR. SCOTT LEFT HERE IN 1886 TO GO TO FLORIDA FOR HIS HEALTH.
