ACCORDING TO AN INTERVIEW WITH " AUNT EMMA BARTON MOORE " BY LUCY FREEMAN , AUNT EMMA STATES THAT AS FAR AS SHE KNEW SHE WAS THE FIRST CHILD BORN IN WHAT LATER WAS TO BECOME MARMADUKE . SHE WAS BORN JANUARY 31 , 1876 , IN A LOG CABIN LOCATED WHERE TE METHODIST CHURCH NOW STANDS . THERE WERE ONLY TWO HOUSES STANDING , THE ONE WHERE AUNT EMMA WAS BORN AND THE OTHER ACROSS THE ROAD . LATER HER FATHER BUILT A HOUSE WHERE VIOLA CROUCH'S HOUSE NOW STAND.

AUNT EMMA STATED HER FATHER DIED WHEN SHE WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD AND THAT BOTH HER FATHER AND STEP-FATHER WERE POSTMASTERS FOR MARMADUKE . AFTER HER FATHER DIED , HER MOTHER MARRIED EDMOND HOLT . HER MOTHER DIED WHEN SHE WAS 16 YEARS OLD .

MUCH OF THE HISTORY OF MARMADUKE WAS CENTERED AROUND THE LIFE OF " AUNT EMMA MOORE ". SHE IS A VERY MUCH PART OF THE HISTORY OF MARMADUKE .
