A county is created with formal words ,but it is the people of a county who ,

through their struggles and their joys , breathe life into the creation.

Operation Sidekick

Greene County was formed in 1833 from part of Lawrence County. Clay County, in 1873, and Craighead County, in 1859, Poinsett County, in 1838 were formed partly from sections of Greene County. The county seat of Greene County is Paragould.

Crossover Counties in Northeast Arkansas

The County Formation listed above for Greene County is some information that I have been researching what I call crossover counties located around or formed from Greene County or Greene County was formed from part of the other surrounding counties . It makes researching part of our families even more of a challenge.

Created: November 5 , 1833.
Parent County: Lawrence.
Offspring Counties: Clay 1873, Craighead 1859, Poinsett 1838.
County Boundary Changes: Boundary with Clay changed April 20 , 1895.
County Records: A courthouse fire in 1876 destroyed most records.

GRAND OPENING

Greene County Museum, Inc. of Paragould will have their grand opening
January 12 & 13. 2008. The museum will be open 1:00PM to 4:00 PM each day.
The address is 130 S. 14th Street.
Prior to the opening of the museum on Saturday January 12, 2008 a fish fry
will be held at the Atkins Center (downtown Paragould) on Pruett Street. The
price will be $10.00 payable at the door.
There will be no charge to tour the museum but donations are appreciated.
