MALDEN , MO.-- J.D. SMITH , 51 YEAR OLD SWITCHMAN OF THE MISSOURI PACIFIC RAILROAD , WAS SEVERELY INJURED SATURDAY NIGHT WHEN HE FELL UNDER A COTTON BELT FREIGHT CAR AT MALDEN . SMITH LOST HIS LEFT LEG ABOVE THE KNEE AND HIS RIGHT ARM BELOW THE ELBOW. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE BRANDON HOSPITAL IN POPLAR BLUFF. SMITH IS A RESIDENT OF PARAGOULD , ARK. WHERE HE RESIDES WITH HIS WIFE.
