JNO. M. DAVIS WAS THE FIRST DRUGGIST OF THE TOWN , HAVING COME HERE FROM MISSISSIPPI AND WAS ALSO THE SUPERINTENDENT OF THE FIRST SUNDAY SCHOOL.

HIS DEATH WAS OF COMPARATIVE RECENT DATE BUT HIS LIFE WAS SO LINKED WITH THE HISTORY OF THE TOWN THAT IT WOULD BE INCOMPLETE WITH HIS NAME LEFT OUT.

HE DID NOT ACCUMULATE AN ESTATE AS DID MANY OF THE OLD RESIDENTS , BUT HE WAS A FORCE IN THE MORAL UPBUILDING OF THE CITY AND NEVER MISSED AN OPPORTUNITY TO FIGHT THE LIQUOR TRAFFIC , AND ONE OF THE MOST GRATIFYING REALIZATIONS OF HIS LAST YEARS WAS PARAGOULD'S FREEDOM FROM THE CURSE OF THE LIQUIOR TRAFFIC.

HE WAS THE FATHER OF RUSSELL DAVIS , THE WELL KNOWN PRESCRIPTION CLERK AT THOMPSON'S DRUG STORE . OF MRS. WILL SCOTT AND BONNER DAVIS . HIS WIDOW SURVIVES HIM.
