Thirty - one Paragould young ladies will be held in suspense over which lucky one will be named Miss Diamond Jubilee Monday night and reign over the Jubi - Celebration next week.
Standings as announced yesterday tied three top candidates , Martha Lee Adams , Jackie Fletcher , and Myra Mills.
Besides the title there are awards and gifts for the first eleven contestants.
Other positions as announced are ;
2nd place - Tie between Pam Davis , Ann Whitney and Wilma Hyde
3rd - Tie between Lynda Heath , Glenavive Farley , Jerry Ann Albright and Martha Vance
4th -- Tie between Brenda Hunt , Betty Dollins , Henri Etta Bleier and Janet Edrington
5th -- Tie between Melba McFall , Carolyn Joyce Barron , Margaret Clark
6th -- Tie between Donna Herron , Melba Kibler , Linda Bateman
7th -- Tie between Sue Bruner , Gloria Pickens , Mary Nancy Huntsman
8th --- Tie between Ruth Helen Henderson & Patricia Jones
9th -- Tie between Brenda Camp , Mrs. Gale Maag , Carolyn Williams , Ouida Nellie McKinney , Carolyn Bratton and Cathy Cooper .
Announcement was also made that escorts for the queen and her princesses at the pre-pageant cermonies will be members of the Air Force Reserve Unit , Flight C.
The escorts will include H.T. Cole , J.C. Edrington , Harry D. Smith ,
Welton Goodman , Pat Carroll , Billy Frazier , Don Utley , Burrell Thompson , Van Dale Harvey , Doyle Davis , James Davenport , Jerry Yates , Judson McDaniel Benny Furlong , Rex Morris , Gerald Schmallhorst , Charles Gentry.
Fairview Woman For Jubilee Group
Mrs. Frank Buchanan was named chairman for the "Fair Belles " of the Fairview Community at a organizational meeting held Monday night at the Fairview clubhouse.
Also elected were Mrs. Joe Howard , treasurer, and Mrs. Harry Mitchell , reporter.
The group made plans for a picnic luncheon Friday at Walcott State Park for their families .
They chose Saturday as their costume day.
Jubilee Ball To Be Held
A Jubilee Ball will be held Saturday , July 19 at 9:p.m. in the Armory announced Bill block dance chairman.
The 11- piece Hilburn Graves Orchestra that appears over Memphis television stations will furnish the music. Interesting two Paragould citizens is the fact that Mr. Graves is from Paragould and Carl Potter is a former member of this orchestra .
Admission will be $1.00 per person and tickets may be purchases from any member of the Jubilee Committee or "Brothers of the Brush" and Jubilee Belles " chapter chairman .
