JUDGE O'STEEN WAS ONE OF THE LANDMARKS OF PARAGOULD AND ONE AMONG THE FIRST SETTLERS OF THE TOWN. HE SERVED THE COUNTY TEN YEARS AS COUNTY JUDGE AT INTERVALS AND ALWAYS CAME OUT OF OFFICE WITH A RECORDS THAT WAS GENERALLY APPROVED BY THE PEOPLE.

AS COUNTY JUDGE HE BUILT THE COURT HOUSE AND THE COUNTY JAIL AND TOOK SPECIAL PRIDE IN MAINTAINING THE COUNTY'S CREDIT. HE WAS PROMINENT AS A MASON AND AN ACTIVE WORKER IN THE BAPTIST CHURCH . HE SERVED TWO TERMS AS MAYOR OF PARRAGOULD. HIS HOME AT THE CORNER OF MAIN AND FOURTH STREETS WHICH HE ESTABLISHED YEARS AGO IS NOW OCCUPIED BY HIS WIDOW AND HIS DAUGHTER , MRS INEZ MCCRACKEN AND HER HUSBAND . HE LEFT A GOOD ESTATE AND DIED LOVED AND REVERED AUG. 12, 1908.
