Then they moved to what used to be called Bailey Trading Post down on the San Francis River almost on the the Craighead line .
My Grandpa Barney would tell about having to get up way before daylight an travel by boat and lantern's to Childers Arkansas by the way of the river to trade their goods an come back home late up in the night. In 1935 they moved across the 8-mile right on the Craighead line to what is still to this day the Morton Homeplace where my Parent's still live.
When they first moved their it was nothing but swamps an cyprus trees . They started clearing the land an working the ground , used the lumber an built their homes . My sister's an I grew up in the original house that they built in 1935.
My Dad an Grandpa moved the house on up the road about quarter of a mile from were it was built on higher ground . They set the house on logs an slowly rolled the house to where it now sets up by the 8-mile ditch. Pulling it with teams of horse's.
My parent's still live their today an farm the Morton Land raising soybeans an winter wheat.
