PARAGOULD -- George Leonard Harmon, 85, of Paragould, formerly of Nimmons, died Thursday, Dec. 11, in Paragould.

Born in Nimmons, he was a World War II veteran, retired from Michigan Seamless in South Lyon and Bethel General Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Harmon of the home; two daughters, Patsy Shreer and Pauline Lucchetti, both of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a son, Wendell Harmon of Port Charlotte; four stepdaughters, Netta Adams of San Antonio, Lynda Woolery of Piggott, Ronda Beasley of Paragould and Crystal Current of Tucson, Ariz.; two stepsons, Gary Williamson of Piggott and David Williamson of South Lyon; two sisters, Amy Barker of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Vada Moore of Parma, Mich.; 40 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Lewis Harmon; his parents, George W. and Emma Head Harmon; six brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home, with Marston Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Nimmons Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeff Mitchell, Tom Woolery, Will Alley, Andy Alley, Kurt Williamson, Joe Williamson, Aaron Mitchell and Sean Mitchell.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Howell

KNOBEL -- J.W. Howell, 62, of Knobel died Thursday, Dec. 11, at Knobel.

Born at Hickoria, he was a self-employed car salesman.

Survivors include two sons, Kelvin Howell of Festus, Mo., and Jay Howell of Union, Mo.; three daughters, Tammy Tate of Knobel, Renee Hurt of Paragould and Cindy Hall of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two brothers, Lee Howell of Festus and Benny Howell of Florida; two sisters, Betty Yandell of Corning and Mariatta McKinney of Rector; and nine grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Hosea Cemetery at Knobel, with the Rev. Kelsey Vallance officiating. Ermert Funeral Home of Corning is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Wells

PARAGOULD -- Richard Lavier "R.L." Wells, 73, of Paragould died Saturday, Dec. 13, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born at Granada County, Miss., he was a graduate of the University of Houston at Clear Lake, Texas. He was the owner of Wellsco Inc., Telecom Services, Wellsco Graphic Solutions and was retired from General Telephone.

He was a member of East Side Baptist Church at Paragould and an Air Force veteran. He was a board member of American State Bank and Arkansas Methodist Medical Center and president of the Greene County Endowment Foundation.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Cummings Wells of Paragould; two sons, James B. Wells and David Wells, both of Paragould; two daughters, Suzanne Landers and Cheri Cone, both of Paragould; two brothers, Linwood Wells of Paragould and Lavon Wells of Duncanville, Texas; one sister, ErmaLou Lucius of Bullard, Texas; and seven grandchildren, Christopher Landers, Carrie Landers, Elizabeth Landers, Ashleigh Wells, Bryce Wells, Carson Cone and Conner Cone.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at East Side Baptist Church of Paragould, with the Rev. Greg Addison and the Rev. Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be George Robert Wadley, Larry McMurry, Mack Hester, David Riley, Eric Brown and Chris Cone.

PEACH ORCHARD -- Warren Walker, 37, of Peach Orchard died Saturday, Dec. 13, at his residence.

Born at Paragould, he was a farmer and member of the United Methodist Church of Corning. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Walker of Peach Orchard; one daughter, Rachel Walker of Sherwood; two sons, Cody Huffman and Zack Huffman, both of Peach Orchard; his parents, Larry and Angie Walker of Peach Orchard; one brother, Wade Walker of Paragould; and his grandparents, Calvin and Flo Walker of Knobel and Verba Walker of Knob.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, E.J. Walker.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ermert Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Larry Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery.

PARAGOULD -- Frances Lewallen, 78, of Paragould died Saturday, Dec. 13, at the National Healthcare Nursing Home in Kennett, Mo.

Born in Paragould, she was a Baptist and was retired from Pro Golf in Paragould.

Survivors include two sons, Ron Lewallen of Holcomb, Mo., and Levohn Lewallen of Lowndes, Mo.; one brother, Ray Peters of Paragould; one sister, Viola Arnold of Pickneyville, Ill.; four grandchildren, Michael Lewallen, Ronnie Lewallen, Debbie Dersum and Mendy Hicks; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Hattie Mae Page Peters.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Elmwood Cemetery at Blytheville, with the Rev. James Swafford officiating. Heath Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

PARAGOULD -- Mable Elnora Smith, 85, of Paragould died Friday, Dec. 12, in Chandler, Ariz.

Born at Trumann, she was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include seven sons, Allen Leathon Smith, Billy Earl Smith, DeWayne Smith, James Smith, David Smith and Donnie Smith, all of Paragould, and Buddy Smith of Atlanta; four daughters, Veria Joe Moore of Paragould, Glenda Kay Cox of Mountain Home, Sharon Pierce of Chandler and Sandra Joe Medcalf of Virginia; three brothers, J.W. Sullivan, Jimmy Sullivan and Billy Sullivan, all of Arizona; 33 grandchildren; and 59 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Leathon Smith; her parents, Hiram and Alpha Sullivan; one sister; two brothers; and one great-grandson.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould, with Jimmy Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Finch Cemetery.

Sanders

PARAGOULD -- E.A. "Aden" Sanders, 86, of Paragould died Monday, Dec. 15, at the Paragould Nursing Center.

Born in Delaplaine, he served in the Army and Navy during World War II and was a former owner of Sanders Station, Evinrude Outboard Motor Sales and the Mary Carter Paint Store. He was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Ray, Frankie Babcock and Jan Monroe, all of Paragould; five grandchildren, Sherry Jetton, Steven Babcock Jr. and Mitchell Porter, all of Paragould, Tammy Gulley of Jonesboro and Kenny Babcock of Gulfport, Miss.; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maurine Sanders; his parents, Henry and Rose Campbell Sanders; several brothers and sisters; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould, with Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Buford Adams, James Vance and Leland Newberry.

PARAGOULD -- Jimmie Wayne Jennings, 53, of Paragould died Monday, Dec. 15, at his home.

Born in Decatur, Ill., he was formerly of Rector and was a member of the Rector First United Methodist Church and the Marine Reserve for six years. He was employed as deli-bakery manager for Wal-Mart.

Survivors include two daughters, Kary Mills of Rogers and Chrissy Pazanowski of Kennett, Mo.; one sister, Patty Willoughby of Paragould; and one granddaughter, Mallory Gilbee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Wayne and Esta Mae Jackson Jennings.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Irby Funeral Home chapel in Rector, with the Rev. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector.

Pallbearers will be Ken Willoughby, Richard Mills, Chris Pazanowski, Shane Roofe and Jim Kennedy.

PARAGOULD -- Claudia Frances Ford, 83, of Paragould died Monday, Dec. 15, at her residence.

Blaylock

PARAGOULD -- Donald Edward Blaylock, 47, of Paragould died Sunday, Dec. 14, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Montgomery County, Miss., he was a painter and carpenter and of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Angel Blaylock of Eupora, Miss., and Tonya Blaylock of Vaiden, Miss.; his father and stepmother, Charles R. and Cheryl Blaylock of Winona, Miss.; his mother, Jewell Blaylock of Paragould; one brother, William Blaylock of Vaiden; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Shiloh United Methodist Church, with Jim Chaplain officiating.

No visitation is planned.

Thompson

PARAGOULD -- Mack Autry Thompson, 81, of Paragould died Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Greene County, he worked as an Arkansas State Police trooper from 1947-67 and during his career reached the rank of major. He retired from Arkla Gas Co. after 25 years of service. He served 14 years in the Arkansas House of Representatives and was a deacon at Finch Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Allean Thompson of the home; two sons, Mack Edward Thompson of Ash Flat and Dickie Thompson of Finch; a sister, Irene Walden of Paragould; and four grandchildren, Kristin Thompson, John Edward Thompson, Jorden Tyler Thompson and Taryn Elizabeth Ann Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward and Mattie Miller Thompson, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Finch Baptist Church, with Max Gregory and Terry Gage officiating. Burial will follow in Finch Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

PARAGOULD -- Edna Mae Oglesby, 80, of Paragould died Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Keiser, she was a homemaker and a member of Stonewall Baptist Church.

PARAGOULD -- Helen Quintana, 78, of Paragould died Friday, Dec. 19, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born at Springer, N.M., she was a homemaker and member of Dixie Baptist Church.

Survivors include five sons, Richard Quintana of Las Vegas, N.M., Lorenzo Quintana of Lacey, Wash., Carlos Quintana of Albuquerque, N.M., and Lewis Quintana, Freddie Quintana and Henry Quintana, all of Paragould; three brothers, Robert Trujillio and William Trujillio, both of Springer, and McArthur Trujillio of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three sisters, Betty Wells of Dodge City, Kan., Lucy King of Colorado Springs and Patsy Casias of Los Animas, N.M.; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother and three brothers.

PARAGOULD -- Thomas Jefferson "Pop" Hatcher, 74, of Paragould died Saturday, Dec. 20, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.

Born at Osceola, he lived most of his life in the Trumann area before moving to Paragould four years ago. He was retired from the Singer Co. of Trumann and was a member of the Black Oak Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Morris D. Hatcher of Paragould and Dale E. Hatcher of Jonesboro; one sister, Doty Gould of Lepanto; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Delilah Hatcher; one great-granddaughter; his parents, Ross and Jennie Hatcher; six sisters; and five brothers.

PARAGOULD -- Jerry Lee Dortch, 60, of Paragould died Monday, Dec. 22, at Sunshine Manor in Paragould.

Born in Highland Park, Mich., he was a self-employed contractor for Air Quality and Pro Tek and was of the Methodist belief.

Survivors include a brother, Larry Dortch of Paragould; and two sisters, June Gibson and Jo Ann Branch, both of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Stella Irene Rawls

Stella Irene Rawls, 85, of White Cloud, Mich., formerly of Paragould, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at her home.

She was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Paragould. She was a homemaker and a volunteer driver for the Mental Health Center of Newaygo County, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Rawls; her former husbands, Sanford Parker and Joel Moore; her parents, Clyde Kelly and Genie Houston Walters; three sons, Bob Moore, Jerry Parker and Windell Rawls; two brothers; and five sisters.

Survivors include six sons, Sandy Parker, Jr., of White Cloud, Mich., Howard Parker and Gordon Parker, both of Flint, Mich., Lindell Rawls, Gary Rawls, and Danny Rawls, all of Paragould; two daughters, Kelly Sue Bradford of Grant, Mich., and Barbara Ethridge of Kissimmee, Fla.; one sister, Dorris Williams of Flint; 47 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with the Rev. Bill Tice and the Rev. Dennis Strope officiating.

Burial will be at Beech Grove Cemetery in Beech Grove under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Luis Reyna Jr. - Paragould

Luis Reyna Jr., 31, of Paragould died Monday, March 17, 2003, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical center in Paragould.

Born in Harlingen, Texas, he was a Baptist and was a former resident of Leachville and Harlingen before moving to Paragould.

Survivors include his wife, Christie Lynn Reyna of Paragould; a son, Louie Reyna of Paragould; his mother Petra Sanceda Reyna of Paragould; his father, Luis Cruz Reyna Sr. of San Benito, Texas; a sister, Elsa Reyna of Paragould; two brothers, Noe Reyna of Arbyrd, and Martin Reyna of Manila.

The funeral was held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Real Hope Community Church in Paragould with Rev. Max Guzman officiating. Burial was in San Benito City Cemetery at San Benito.

Billy Joe Fears - Paragould

Billy Joe Fears, 70, of Paragould, died Monday, April 21, 2003, at the Arkansas Mehtodist Hospital in Paragould. Born at Leachville, he was the son of the late William and Rosie Smith Fears and had lived most of his life in the Leachville and Paragould areas. He was retired from the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for 15 years in the Brimmerton Naval Shipyard in Brimmerton, Wash. He was a member of the East Main Church of Christ in Paragould.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Puckett Fears of the home; a daughter, Brenda Fears Johnson, of Linden, Utah; a step-son, Dennis Charles Blocker, of Blytheville; two step-daughters, Karen Langston and Patti Scott, both of El Dorado; two brothers, Alfred Ray Fears of Piggott, and Terry Lynn Fears of Paragould; a sister, Geneva Fears of Paragould; a cousin, Tessie Hutchison of Paragould; an uncle, Barney Fears of Stanford.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Anderson Fears.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Leachville with Dale House officiating. Burial was in the Shiloh Cemetery in Paragould.

 

Lavern Hollis - Paragould

Lavern "Granny" Hollis, 89, of Paragould died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. She was retired from Kentucky Fried Chicken in Paragould. She was a member of Faith Assembly Church in Paragould and had lived in Paragould since 1972, formerly of Childress.

She is survived by her guardians Jeff and Dena Gage of Paragould; a sister, Bonnie King of Egypt; two sister-in-laws, Coryil Sims of Monette and Edwena Hollis of Alabama; two brothers, Charlie Dement of Alburn, Calif., and Donald Dement of Jonesboro; a daughter, Shirley Hollis of Paragould, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norvil "Juper" Hollis, and her parents, Jim and Jewell Dement, and four brothers, Ray Dement, Bobby Dement, Desmond Dement and Alvie Dement.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with Rev. Dennis Bradley officiating. Burial was in Greene County Memorial Cemetery in Paragould. Arrangements were under the direction of Gregg Fuenral Home of Monette.

Beatrice Brown, 93, of Paragould, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.

She was born Feb. 25, 1910, at Senath. She was a former employee of Arkansas State College and a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry E. and Joyce Brown of Leachville; two daughters and son-in-law, Charlene M. Kimbrell of Monette and Judy C. and Dale Johnston of Paragould; two sisters, Eva St. Clair of Farmington, Mo., and Edith Gooch of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren, Larry O. Brown, Lisa Cagle, Kim Kelton, Brent Johnston and Julie Whitney; six great-grandchildren, Brooke Brown, Hunter Brown, Nicholas Cagle, Kristopher Kelton, Jonathan Whitney and Jennifer Whitney; one great-great-grandchild, Whit Cagle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Hettie Hipps; her husband, Charles E. Brown; two brothers, Floyd Hipps and Clifford Hipps and a sister, Flossie Carwile.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Mitchell Fuenral Home Chapel in Paragould with Brother Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial was in the Monette Cemetery with Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould in charge of arrangements.

Homer Dale Church - Paragould

Homer Dale Church, 67, of Paragould, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Manila, he was a retired car dealer and was a member of Peace Tabernacle Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Burns Church of the home; a son, Lavon Church of Paragould; three daughters, Melissa Couch, Cindy Gage and Krickett Lenderman, all of Paragould; a stepdaughter, Casandra Bryson of Paragould; a brother, Jim Church of Paragould; a sister, Wilma Durham of Jonesboro; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bertha Hoggard Church; a son, Homer Dale Couch Jr.; and a sister.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel with the Revs. Bill Snow and Onis Summers officiating. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery.

Bernice Martin - Paragould

Bernice Martin, 65, of Paragould, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She was a homemaker, member of Eastside Baptist Church in Trumann, and had lived in Paragould four years, formerly of Lake City.

She is survived by her husband, Quinton Martin, of the home; a son, Ray Martin of Paragould; a daughter, Reba Shirley of Paragould; a brother, Raymond Clark, of Highland; eight grandchildren, Tommy Shirley, Dwayne Shirley, Jeff Shirley, Melanie Walker, Shannon Martin, Brandi Martin, Adam Rondell, and Robin Lidell; and five great-grandchildren, Zach Shirley, Natalie Shirley, Jazmyn Walker, Tymra Walker and Weston Shirley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Eva Clark, a brother, J.T. Clark, and two sons, James and Larry Martin.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Rev. Thom Cody officiating. Burial was at the Senath Cemetery with Gregg Funeral Home of Monette in charge.

Active pallbearers were Tommy Shirley, Dwayne Shirley, Jeff Shirley, Tim Walker, Michael Potter, and Wes Fowler. Honorary pallbearer was Danny Roberson.

 

Elvis Roy Davidson - Paragould

Elvis Roy Davidson, 83, of Paragould died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born in Monette, he was a retired carpenter and was of the Methodist belief.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Alene Akes Davidson of Paragould; a son, Darrell Davidson of Paragould; three daughters, Shelvie Morris of Hoxie, Barbara Prince of Jonesboro and Martha Ewing of Paragould; a brother, Boyd Davidson of Lake City; a sister, Pauline Parrish of Monette; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Mary Davidson, and a sister.

The funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould with Kenny Crafton officiating. Burial was in the Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Rodney James, Noel Fore, Donald Johnson, Bobby Boren, Tim Stocker, Skyler Stocker, Bo Stocker and Byron Stocker.

 

Billy Mack Johnson - Paragould

Billy Mack Johnson, 71, of Paragould died Tuesday, July 15, 2003. Born in Leachville, he was a veteran of the Korean War, a former assistant cashier at First National Bank of Commerce and was owner, operator and salesman at Lamb Auto Sales. He was a member of Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Pansy Johnson of the home; a son, Ted Johnson of Leachville; a daughter, Debra Mosley of North Little Rock; two sisters, Betty Buck of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and LeFetra Galyean of Knoxville, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Kyle Mosley of North Little Rock and Ashley Johnson of Leachville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Lola Bishop Johnson, and two brothers.

The funeral was held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel with Art Smith officiating. Burial was in Greene county Memorial Gardens in Paragould.

Trumann Hoyd Akes - Paragould

Trumann Hoyd Akes, 71, of Paragould, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould. Born at Russellville, he was the son of the late Willie "J.W." and Jessie Harvey Akes and was a former longtime Leachville/Monette area resident before moving to Paragould 14 years ago. He was a member of the Monette First Assembly of God.

He is survived by a brother, Floyd Akes of Monette; two sisters, Ruby Davidson and Mary Tyler, both of Paragould; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Akes.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Sept. 1 at the Howard Funeral chapel in Leachville with Rev. Terry Miller officiating. Burial was in the Cudd Cemetery in Marmaduke

 

Wanda Faye Wilson Clark - Paragould

Wanda Faye Wilson Clark, formerly of Manila, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at Beverly Health Care Center in Jonesboro. Born at Manila, she was the daughter of the late J.J. and Mergie White Wilson and had lived in Paragould for the past 12 years. She was employed as a case coordinator for the Department of Human Services in Paragould. She was a member of the Westview Baptist Church in Paragould.

She is survived by her husband, Earnest Clark, of Paragould; two sons, Keith Wallace of Leachville and Brian Clark of Caraway; a daughter, Terry Overhouser of Rector; a brother, A.J. Wilson of Montgomery, Ala.; two sisters, Louise Frye of Greers Ferry and Doris Bandy of Leachville; and five grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Leachville with Rev. Leon Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery.

 

John Franklin Stephen - Paragould

John Franklin Stephen, 85, of Paragould died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Monette Manor. He was a retired cabinet maker, Methodist, veteran of Normandy War of Northern France, a member of the VFW and member of Carpenter Machinest Union. He had lived in Paragould for three years, formerly of Madison, Ill.

He is survived by a brother, Delmar Yates of Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Gary Stephens of St. Peters, Mo., and Creg Michael Stephen of Barnhart, Mo.; two daughters, Peggy Bailey of Paragould and Beverly Green of Dittmer, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Victoria Hunt, Charles Dacus, Mark Bailey, Tony Bailey, Stacey Bailey, Terry Bailey, Yvette Hudson, Damon Stephen, Diona Rolston, Stephanie Stephen, Cameron Stephen, Eric Stephen, and Patrick Stephen, and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dan Stephen; his mother, Mildred Yates; children's mother, Blanche Stephen; children's step-mother, Sylba Stephen; daughter, Deborah Stephen, and grandson, John Frick.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Friday at Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill, Mo. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Cedar Hill with Gregg Funeral Home of Monette in charge of local arrangements.

 

Ruth Nettie Grooms - Paragould

Ruth Nettie Grooms, 75, of Paragould died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at her home. She was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Craighead County. She was a retired custodian of Greene County Tech School where she had worked for 16 years. She was a member of the First Assembly of God and served as a Sunday School teacher for 35 years.

Survivors include her mother, Gracie Pearl Grooms of Leachville; her husband, Robert Grooms of Paragould; a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Deloris Grooms; a foster daughter, Ruby Morgan of Booneville; three brothers, Gaylon Pierce of Lake City, William Piercy of Monette and Layman Piercy of West Helena; a sister, Jewell Ann Rolland of Leachville; three grandchildren and several step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edgar Piercy; a brother, Rufus Piercy; a sister, Billie Fern Piercy and a granddaughter, Mona Grooms.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Tuesday), at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will be at Greene county Memorial Gardens Cemetery

 

Dorothy Lee Phillips - Paragould

Dorothy Lee Phillips, 68, of Paragould, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at her residence. Born at Manila, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Newt and Dixie Ethel Evans and had been a Paragould resident since 1988. She was a former long time Florida resident and was a retired electronics technician with Motorola Corp. Mrs. Phillips was a member of 10th Street Missionary Baptist Church in Paragould.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Phillips of the home; two daughters, Sandra Morrow of Mt. Nebo, West Virginia and Rhonda Gail Quintana of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Leonard Earl Evans of Greenfield, Ind.; two sisters, Martha Jean Stillwell and Linda Wilmuth, both of Manila; two grandchildren, Misty Bishop and Jack Quintana and one great-grandchild, Joseph Tyler Bishop.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Howard Funeral Chapel in Manila with Rev. Fred Jones officiating. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery. The family will receive visitors this evening (Tuesday) from 6-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

Roger Dale Skinner - Paragould

Roger Dale Skinner, 56, of Paragould died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was a farm worker, an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Shawn Skinner of Caraway and Jeffery Skinner of Blytheville; three daughters, Theresa Skinner of Alabama, Gena Mullins of Monette and Jamie Skinner of Blytheville; his mother, Evelyn Osborn of Concord; three half brothers, Gene Osborn, Dickey Osborn and Joshua Osborn, all of Concord; two half sisters, Sue Mason of Floral and Rhonda Brehs of Concord; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Carl Osborn, and a sister.

A graveside service was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in New Liberty Cemetery with Larry McFadden officiating. Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

 

Carl Fletcher Kennedy - Paragould

Carol Fletcher Kennedy, son of the late Pleasant H. and Maude Bush Kennedy, was born Aug. 15, 1919, in Russell County, Va., and passed away March 21, 2003, at the Arkansas Mehtodist Medical Center in Paragould at the age of 83.

He married Vida Daily May 5, 1949, in Pascagoula, Miss., She preceded him in death Sept. 1, 2002.

Kennedy was an Air Force World War II Veteran, serving in China, Burma, and India. He was a member of the VFW in Paragould.

Survivors include a step-son, Willie Hayes and wife, Phyllis, of brookport, Ill., a sister, Oakley Kennedy Holbrook, of Coeburn, Va.; very special nephew, Lonnie Robinette and his wife, Hattie; and daughters, Michelle Ketring and Gina Bissonnette, and granddaughter, Emily Grace Bissonnette, all of Lyons, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Otis, carry, Willie, Thomas and Clarence Kennedy, and two sisters, Juanita Robinette, and Virginia Massey.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Monday at the McDaniel chapel in Arbyrd with Rev. Troy Alley officiating. Burial was in the Cardwell Cemetery under the direction of McDaniel Funeral Home of Arbyrd.

 

Amanda Emelia Umsted - Paragould

Amanda Emelia Umsted, 88, of Paragould died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born in Albee, S.D., she had worked as a sales clerk at Belks until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Paragould.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Lee Hughes of Jonesboro and Carolyn Teeter of Little Rock; and four grandchildren, Matthew Teeter and Ellen Teeter, both of Little Rock, Amy Lambert of Leachville and Marka Hughes of Jonesboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Bowell "Bos" Umsted, two brothers and three sisters.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel with Rev. David Moseley officiating. Burial was at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Sybil J. Olive - Mountain Home

Sybil J. Olive, 74, of Mountain Home, formerly of Paragould, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Baxter Regional Medical Center. Born in Ava, Mo., she and her husband operated a grocery store in Paragould for 15 years. She also was employed by the Ed White Shoe Factory in Paragould and worked at Lincoln Manufacturing in Jonesboro for 22 years. She was a member of the Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son, Dean Olive of Leachville; a daughter, Judy Page of Mountain Home; four grandchildren, Katie Olive of Leachville, Michelle Harris and Christopher Page, both of Mountain Home, and Jennifer Buck of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Olan Olive, and her parents, Archie and Mary Katherine Heatherly.

The funeral was held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial chapel in Paragould. Art Smith and Maurice Hurd officiated. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery.

 

Dorris Sue Morrow - Beech Grove

Dorris Sue Morrow, 61, of Beech Grove, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at her residence. Born April 23, 1941, at Stanford, she was a retired social worker and former owner of Morrow's Grocery. She was a member of Commissary Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Morrow of Beech Grove; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Wanda Morrow of Beech Grove and Mark and LeAnn Morrow of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Jessica, Baylee, Ashlee, Mikah, Lydia and Mason Morrow; a brother, Jones Shaffer of Hardy; a sister, Connie Gill of Beech Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Maudie Doughty Shaffer, and a brother, J.M. Shaffer.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Phil Wilkerson, L.R. Smith and Darrell Austin officiating. Burial was in Morrow Cemetery.

Wesley Jay Vaughn, 26, of Paragould, Ark., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, in Greene County.

Born Dec. 11, 1977, in Paragould, son of Mike and Teresa George Vaughn, he was a utility trailer-roof assembler.

Survivors include his parents, Mike and Teresa Vaughn, of Paragould; his fiance, Karen Collier, of Paragould; one daughter, Hannah Vaughn, of Paragould; two brothers, Jason Vaughn, of Brookland, Ark. and Casey Vaughn, of Marmaduke, Ark. and grandparents, Gene and Pat Vaughn, of Cardwell, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Oneida and Woodrow George.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Heath Funeral Home in Paragould.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Art Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at the Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Paragould.
