COMMITTEE OF ALDERMEN BUY GROUNDS FOR PEST HOUSE

J.V. LANDRUM , L.J. EMPFIELD AND J. M. WORKMAN , COMMITTEE APPOINTED BY THE MAYOR TO SELECT AND PURCHASE A SITE FOR A CITY HOSPITAL OR PEST HOUSE , HAVE COMPLETED THEIR LABORS AND REPORT THE PURCHASE OF TWO ACRES OF GROUND FROM L. McHANEY , LYING NORTH OF THE PROPERTY OCCUPIED BY THE CITY SEXTON , THE CONSIDERATION BEING $100 CASH.

A NUMBER OF ENTERPRISING CITIZENS TOOK THE SCRIP AT ITS PAR VALUE IN ORDER TO SAVE THE CITY MONEY AND PUT THE DEAL THROUGH. ALDERMEN LANDRUM AND COLE BEING THE COMMITTEE APPOINTED TO NEGOTIATE THE SCRIP. THE CITY COUNCIL WILL DETERMINE AT ITS NEXT MEETING THE KIND OF HOUSE TO BE CONSTRUCTED AND IT IS SUPPOSED THAT THERE WILL BE NO DELAY IN GETTING THE HOUSE BUILT.

THE BUILDING WILL BE USED AS A HOSPITAL FOR PERSONS AFFLICTED WITH CONTAGION , IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE CITY'S HEALTH.

THIS IS A MOVE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND A GOOD SUBSTANTIAL HOUSE SHOULD BE CONSTRUCTED AT ONCE.
