SEVEN NEW CASES OF SMALL POX REPORTED BY THE BOARD OF HEALTH .

EVERY EFFORT IS BEING MADE TO PREVENT DISEASE FROM SPREADING

UNFORTUNATELY THE OFFICERS OF THE LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH AND THE OFFICIALS OF THE CITY ,

HAVE FOUND IT NECESSARY TO ADOPT STRINGENT MEASURES AS A PRECAUTIONARY STEP AGAINST THE SPREADING OF SMALLPOX IN PARAGOULD . ALL THE SCHOOLS OF THE CITY HAVE BEEN ORDERED CLOSED UNTIL FUTHER NOTICE , AND NOTICE SERVED ON THE ON THE CITIZENS GENERALLY THAT THERE SHALL BE NO PUBLIC GATHERINGS OF ANY KIND IN THE CITY UNTIL THE OFFICERS FEEL SAFE IN REVOKING THE ORDER . NOTICES , SIGNED BY THE BOARD OF HEALTH , AND MAYOR J.T. HESTER , TO THIS EFFECT HAVE BEEN POSTED ON THE DOORS OF THE CHURCHES , SCHOOL HOUSES , AND ALL OTHER PLACES OF PUBLIC MEETINGS.

WHILE THE SITUATION IS NOT REGARDING AS BEING SO VERY SERIOUS THE OFFICIALS FEEL IT A DUTY FOR THE SAFETY OF THE PUBLIC GENERALLY TO TAKE A DECISIVE STEP AND USE EVERY EFFORT TO DRIVE THE DISEASE FROM THE CITY WHILE IT IS , IN A MANNER , IN ITS INCIPIENCY. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL CASES OF THE DISEASE HERE DURING THE PAST FEW MONTHS , BUT IN EACH INSTANCE IT HAS BEEN OF LIGHT FORM AND IS YET SO. THERE ARE , AT PRESENT , MORE CASES OF THE DISEASE THAN THERE HAVE BEEN OF LATE , AND , CONSEQUENTLY , BEING MORE DIFFICULT TO GUARD AGAINST ITS SPREADING THE OFFICIALS YESTERDAY DECIDED TO INSTITUTE IMMEDIATE ACTION AND MAYOR HESTER ACCORDINGLY ISSUED A PROCLAMATION WHICH WE REPRODUCE IN TODAY'S EDITION OF THE SOLIPHONE.

THERE ARE NOW A TOTAL OF SIXTEEN CASES IN THE CITY. SEVEN OF THE NEW CASES WERE DISCOVERED YESTERDAY.

THE FOLLOWING IS THE OFFICIAL REPORT FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH , PREPARED ESPECIALLY FOR THE SOLIPHONE :
