THE SPRINGDALE CANNING COMPANY WITH CONTRACT FOR TWO HUNDRED ACRES OF TOMATOES THIS SPRING , AT TWENTY CENTS PER BUSHEL.


WILLIAM McGIN , AN EMPLOYEE OF A SAW MILL AT CORNING , SUFFERED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT THIS WEEK . HIS RIGHT HAND WAS SAWED OPEN.


FOUR THOUSAND ACRES OF POTATOES AND 400 ACRES OF CANTALOUPES WILL BE PLANTED THIS YEAR IN POTTAWOTTAMIE COUNTY , OKLA. FOR THE NORTHERN MARKETS.

NEWELL BEAT , THE BAPTIST PREACHER , WHO WAS CHIEF OF THE OLD TOBIQUE INDIANS , WHICH TRIBE FLOURISHED IN AROOSTOOK COUNTY , MAINE , MORE THAN SIXTY YEARS AGO , IS 104 YEARS OLD. EVERY FALL HE AND HIS OLDEST SON GO INTO THE WOODS AND STAY UNTILL SPRING , WHEN THEY RETURN LADEN WITH QUANTITIES OF FURS AND HIDES , AND MAKE AN ANNUAL TRIP TO NEW YORK , WHERE THEY RECEIVE GOOD PRICES FOR THEIR GOODS.

GOV. DAVIS WILL VISIT WASHINGTON D.C. , BEFORE GOING TO SPOKANE , WASHINGTON . MR. CHAS . JACOBSON WILL ACCOMPANY HIM. THEY WILL LEAVE LITTLE ROCK SOME TIME THIS WEEK.


THE ARKANSAS MILITARY ACADEMY AT LITTLE ROCK IS NOW AN ASSURED FACT AND THE WORK OF BUILDING WILL BEGIN MAY 1ST. THE SCHOOL WILL OPEN SEPT. 17TH , WITH PROF. R.C. HALL AS PRESIDENT .


SENATOR THOMAS W. HARDY , OF CAMDEN , IS A CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT OF THE STATE SENATE . SENATOR HARDY WAS A MEMBER OF THE LAST TWO SESSIONS AND WAS RENOMINATED AT THE RECENT PRIMARIES.


AT CLARENDON YESTERDAY WEIGMAN HARSTICK , THREE YEARS OLD , WAS BURNED TO DEATH . HIS MOTHER WAS MAKING SOAP AND USING A LARGE KETTLE ABOUT WHICH A BRISK FIRE WAS BURNING . SHE WENT UP TOWN FOR SOMETHING AND THE CHILD'S CLOTHING BECAME IGNITED.


A REPORT FROM FORT SMITH SAYS THAT A MAN NAMED DUDLEY , WHO IS THOUGHT TO BE INSANE , KILLED HIS 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND ATTEMPTED TO KILL HIS WIFE AND TWO OTHER CHILDREN WITH A PLOW POINT . THE WIFE WILL RECOVER , BUT THE TWO CHILDREN ARE EXPECTED TO DIE. HE GAVE AS AN EXCUSE FOR HIS CRIME THE FACT THAT HE HAD BEEN TALKING ABOUT HIS NEIGHBORS TOTHE MEMBERS OF HIS FAMILY AND WAS AFRAID THEY WOULD INFORM ON HIM .

MILL NO. 2 AT PAULDING , MO. WAS BURNED TO THE GROUND MONDAY AFTERNOON . ON ACCOUNT OF THE STRONG WIND , NOTHING COULD BE SAVED . OVER ONE MILLION FEET OF LUMBER WAS BURNED , AND MANY MEN WERE THROWN OUT OF EMPLOYMENT , IT WAS THE PROPERTY OF THE BUCKEYE LUMBER CO. THE LOSS WAS NOT FULLY COVERED WITH INSURANCE , HOWEVER THERE WAS SOME INSURANCE.
