THE GREENE COUNTY TEACHERS ASSOCIATION MET SATURDAY WITH THE FOLLOWING TEACHERS IN ATTENDANCE:

A VERY INTERESTING PROGRAM WAS RENDERED OF WHICH THE MOST EXCITING NUMBER WAS THE DEBATE.

THE QUESTION WAS , " RESOLVED THAT CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IS ESSENTIAL IN THE SCHOOLROOM ."

AFFIRMATIVE : R.S. THOMPSON , N.C. TERRILL , W.L. SKAGGS , NEGATIVE : M. A. JUSTICE , DELLA MACK , B.M. PARRISH .

THE JUDGES WERE HONS. A.A. KNOX , J.L. LIGHT , F.M. CARTER ; MUCH INTEREST WAS MANIFESTED BY EACH.

THE DECISON WAS RENDERED IN A SPICY LITTLE SPEECH BY MR. KNOX AND WAS IN FAVOR OF THE NEGATIVE.

AMONG OTHER THINGS ON THE PROGRAM WERE THE FOLLOWING :

HOW TO TEACH " STOCK AND BONDS . " M.F. DICKINSON .

OWING TO THE FACT THAT THE COUNTY TEACHERS CAN NOT OR AT LEAST A NUMBER OF THEM DO NOT GET HERE UNTIL

THE AFTERNOON IT WAS DECISED THAT WE SHOULD MEET IN THE AFTERNOON HEREAFTER.

DIRECTORS LOOK OVER THE LIST OF NAMES ABOVE AND SEE IF YOUR TEACHER WAS IN THE

INSTITUTE SATURDAY . IF HE WAS NOT , ASK HIM , THE NEXT TIME YOU SEE HIM , WHY HE DID NOT ATTEND.

INSIST UPON HIS ATTENDING . YOU ARE SACRIFICING THE TIME OF YOUR CHILDREN AS WELL AS

YOUR MONEY WHEN YOU DO NOT EMPLOY THE BEST TEACHERS . IT IS TRUE THAT WE HAVE SOME GOOD TEACHERS

IN THE COUNTY THAT NEVER ATTEND AN INSTITUTE , YET IF YOU WOULD FORCE THEM INTO THE INSTITUTE YOU

WOULD MAKE BETTER TEACHERS OF THEM. AND YOU CAN DO IT BY LETTING THEM KNOW THAT YOU

WILL NOT EMPLOY THEM IF THEY DON'T TRY TO IMPROVE.
