  Welcome to Arizona - ALHN       

Hello, my name is Sandra Beagles. I was born in Phoenix, Arizona and spent most of my life in the surrounding area, I am your volunteer State Coordinator for Arizona American Local History Network, this is a central point of entry to independent web sites and is a not-for-profit organizations, with historical and genealogical information. Our goal is to help the families in search of their roots and learn more about their ancestors and the life style.

Arizona History

 Arizona's territorial government was organized in 1863.the first capital was Fort Whipple it was located 3 miles north east of Prescott. Phoenix was founded in 1867, and made the territorial capital in 1889 and the state capital in 1912.Arizona became the 48th State in the Union on Feb.14, 1912.Arizona's nickname is the Grand Canyon State, after the spectacular gorge in the northern part of the state. Today the population of about 5 million.

Phoenix Chamber of Commerce was organized in 1889.The first horse drawn street car line was built on Washington street in 1887,The first railways to arrive to Phoenix, was Southern Pacific in 1887,The Arizona Republic became the daily paper in 1890.The first Phoenix post office was est. on June 15,1868.

The 13 rays of red and gold on the top half of the flag represent both the 13 original colonies of the Union, and the rays of the Western setting sun. Red and gold were also the colors carried by Coronado's Spanish expedition in search of the Seven Cities of Cibola in 1540. The bottom half of the flag has the same Liberty blue as the United States flag. Since Arizona was the largest producer of copper in the nation, a copper star was placed in the flag's center.
