Re:  SB 341 - OPPOSE (Request to Delete Proposed Section 9055)

Dear Chair Torlakson and Honorable Committee Members:

I support the request made by Sue Silver of California Saving Graves that the Committee delete the proposed Section 9055 contained in SB 341.

Section 9055 will allow a public cemetery district to sell (convey) an historic public cemetery to another cemetery authority (public or private) without regard for: 1) it's historic use as a public cemetery, 2) it's cultural and historical value as a heritage property of California and, 3) it's lack of accurate and historic burial plot maps or interment records that leave unmarked and unknown graves at risk of desecration.

I respectfully request the Committee to delete Section 9055 from SB 341 to protect these public cemeteries of our state's early settlement.
