CLARKSVILLE CEMETERY
Probate Document
from
ESTATE OF GEREMIA BEFFA
on file at
El Dorado County Historical Museum Archives
This document was obtained from the
Probate file of the Estate of Geremia Beffa, deceased, who died at
Clarksville. Charles F. Irwin, the County Judge who administered the
county's Townsite surveys and land patent instruments for privately claimed
property, was the administrator of the Estate. It is our opinion that if
anyone knew what was PUBLIC versus privately-owned lands, it would have been
Judge Irwin. In this document, drawn up by Irwin for approval of payment
to a creditor's bill against the Estate, Irwin clearly notes that Geremia Beffa
"was buried in the public cemetery in said town of
Clarksville..."
Irwin doesn't say Beffa
was buried in "Joerger's cemetery in said town of Clarksville," but
rather defines the public title and character of the cemetery then in use by the
inhabitants of the town of Clarksville.
