Please Note: Due to passage of SB1614 by the California Legislature, signed by Governor Davis on September 20.2002, ALL Birth and Death Indexes for El Dorado County must be removed from the Internet by January 1, 2003. The State of California hopes the enactment of Senate Bill 1614 will protect the public from identity theft/fraud. I apologize for any inconvenience the removal of the El Dorado County Birth and Death Indexes may incur. [SB1614]

I fought SB 1614 all I could. Not having this information available for our cemetery studies (identifying family members who might be in unmarked graves, etc.) will be devastating.

I would like to personally thank you and your staff for having maintained this information so well throughout the years. It has made a tremendous difference to the quality of work we have been able to perform on behalf of the pioneer families who now reside in our oldest cemeteries.

It is so unfortunate that because a few criminals will take advantage of these kinds of records, many hundreds of thousands of family genealogists and historians will be deprived of ready access to this information.

Again, my thanks and appreciation for your past efforts to make this kind of information available to a worldwide audience.

We in El Dorado County are fortunate to have master record keeper holding the office of the County Recorder-Clerk, William Schultz. Mr. Schultz has established a website that provides a wealth of information for genealogists worldwide providing an online index to Vital Statistics as well as Official Records.

In addition, the Recorder-Clerk's staff are an outstanding group of employees who take an active interest in really helping people, even genealogists!
