COLD SPRINGS CEMETERY
Est. 1848-49
Relocated to present site in 1858 by an Act of the State Legislature

The tombstone
of

G.T. Chappell
is the oldest marker in the cemetery today.

G.T. Chappell's tombstone is one of perhaps less than 20 or 30 grave markers
in all of El Dorado County bearing the date of 1850.  Even though the great
California Gold Rush began by the summer of 1848, there is not one grave in
any of our county's historic cemeteries that is dated earlier than 1850.
