This map is derived from the map of the Young Harmon Quartz Mine. Note that the Hospital Building itself was located at the southeastern portion of the County's property, with the Hospital Cemetery being just north and on the hill behind the Hospital. The "Pest House" is on the northwestern portion of the County's property, north and west of the cemetery grounds.

Cultural Resources Report Map
Circa 1987

In 1987, a development project (Quartz Hill Estates), planned for Quartz Hill above the County Hospital Cemetery reviewed the issue of how to provide a required second emergency ingress/egress for the development. The solution proposed seems to have been to install a firefighting access road through the west side of the cemetery. The City of Placerville's report stated the road would not be within 30 feet of a grave. We would have disagreed. That project died, but another project came up in the mid-1990s. The Board of Supervisors gave its "Approval in Concept" that allowed that project to continue. The second project later died due to financial difficulties. The emergency road was never approved or built.
